Apogee (D. Ralph design) by Outdoor Edge

To Professor:

Note that Darrel also produces the Apogee with carbon fiber scales and double Ti liners. This is the Ralph Apogee that I own.

The top pick from the feedback we have received is for an integral frame lock. This does not count out a G-10/Carbon Fiber liner lock version but for now the frame lock is definately a go.

As Darrel posted, we have not had any feedback on finish. If we choose titanium, do you want anodizing? What colors? Blade: Black coating, bead blast or satin finish?

Please send us your comments.

David asked:
Blade: Black coating, bead blast or satin finish?

Satin, definitely. There is no good excuse for bead blasted blades. They're just asking for corrosion. Black coated may have a reason, but I don't like them. They'll scratch up and look like trash much too quickly. If you want to sell a nice looking knife like the Apogee, there's no point in making it look good beforehand and then lousy as soon as someone starts to use it.

Just my 2¢

Satin finished blade(or even better, polished), and a variety of COLORS for the handle. Please don't make another "black knife" (it is not like you guys have a habit of doing so, but it seems to be the industry standard and it is making me nauseaus, A carbon Fiber/bead blasted knife would be lumped into the oh-so-passe' tactical folder market and not stand out, and it would be a shame for a great knife with alot going for it get over looked because it looks like everything else.) The original Apogee is beautiful (Fondled Dexters...) And it would looke great in red and purple and yellow, green, etc. etc. .. .. .. ..And hurry up, my collection needs come color..

It is not a matter of whether or not you are paranoid, it is a matter of whether or not you are paranoid enough.

Anodize with choice of colors, of course you can make a black knife for those who want one, but the gold and blue anodizing on my Apogee is what my girlfriend, sister and mom really liked about this knife as compared to all my others. It gives you a quick "in" to a very untapped market. nudge nudge wink wink.

Hiya Darrel! I've been properly abusing my Apogee it's been holding up great!

My preference would be for the integral frame lock (as seems to be the consensus), satin finished blade, or black coated, but NO WAY bead blasted, and anodized handle in any solid, dignified color.

Here's what I don't want:

Do you remember the old Pepto Bismol commercial that showed a clear plastic stomach with pink stuff oozing down into it to show how Pepto "coats, soothes and protects"? Well, I remember seeing a photo of an Allen Elishewitz knife with an anodized pink/purple handle for a similar "Pepto Bismol Effect". Please don't do anything like that.

I'm a poet, so I appreciate aesthetic values as much as the next guy. But when it comes to knives, I like 'em efficient and unpretentious. If you decide to go with lined scales, I'd rather have G-10 than carbon fiber. If you have to go one way or another with respect to any feature, please don't sacrifice functionality for the sake of appearance.

Thanks for asking. We like companies that listen to us.

To David Rock:

No pink and purple! I agree, Yuck! I'm getting an upset stomach just thinking of this color scheme. Better go run and get some Pepto Bismol.

I would really want the frame lock.
How about the stonewashed finish on the blade?

I second the vote for stonewash finish on the blade. It is much more corrosion resistant than bead blast and hides scratches better than satin finish.

I would love a special first run with your beautiful designer damascus. Make the damascus blue and blue anodization on the TI. Otherwise use a premium steel like CPM420 or CPM440 or BG 42. FLAT GRIND please!!! And keep the integral lock. I will take serial #1

Stay away from aluminum scales..I like the carbon fiber, do a cool weave of some kind, with a bit of color. But not too much.Good linerlock. Use BG42 or CMP440v or something better than ats..not that ats is bad.Tip up? We would pay the extra, for the bells..Just don't go overboard say $150-175 range? And be sure and make two sizes!!!

If you go with a polished anodized finish, go with a polished blade. I love the stonewash, my favofite finish, but the polished look of the Ti Apogee is sharp
