Archery Quiver for Trad Shooting/Hunting

I didn't notice the arrow - pretty cool. The shot looks much longer than 30 yards.

I understand about the quiver position. It's the strap length adjustment mechanism that is not evident - buckle, tab, etc.

yes.. both Boomstick and I use leather washers.. they work great...

I've tried most types of quivers over the years and I keep coming back to two depending upon what I'm doing. If I'm doing any kind of hunting with broadheads, I always use a bowquiver. I've tried hip quivers that got so popular during the early 90's and even a back quiver that was safe to tote broadheads, but always came back to the bowquiver.

For stump shooting, small game/bird hunting and shoots, I use my back quiver most of the time. I made it myself, it holds a LOT of arrows, is fully adjustable for different clothing and it covers my arrows all the way up to the fletching for protection. The arrows are easy to retrieve and stay out of my way. The backquiver is a pain if you are trying to still hunt through a lot of low branches and/or brush.

Good luck!

Personally, I like the look of back quivers, but they aren't comfortable to me, and seem awkward. So, it is totally a personal preference thing, and I like the rover style.

Here is another vote for getting your leather gear from MtnFolk Mike, or Boomstick. Both of them are excellent leathercrafters.

I made my rover style quiver, using there pattern, and I came up with my own pouch design to hold my gear.

There are two types of hip quivers and I think both have been referenced without making the difference clear. The type many speak of is used only for practice and typically at indoor ranges or for circle shooter. They hold a few arrows loosely in a tube style quiver attached to your belt or pants pocket.

The type of hip quiver I was referring to is a solid quiver that holds about 6-8 arrows individually and has a solid hood at the bottom to protect the points including broadheads. Think of a bowquiver upside down and then mounted on a backing, usually leather. Mine was homemade and holds 8 arrows. I used two heavy pieces of leather for the backing and an old bow quiver to make mine. It has a solid belt loop and leg tie so it moves with the thigh. Chuck Adams made them more popular in the early '80's.

Here are some still available!

Dannyboy Leather Great looking equipment you have there. That is a nice variety. Doug

Since I usually travel with a pack or a fanny pack I perfer the selway quiver that attaches to my bow by the use of the limb bolts. I have tried a quiver such as the Fred Asbell, mine is called the Vista. You can carry in in several different styles. Used it one season and will be trading it for some thing usefull. I have a plains style quiver, but just seems to get in the way when stalking through the trees.
My vote is for a quiver on your bow.

I'm going to give the nod for 3Rivers, My wife bought me my #60 Super Mag 48 from them, great outfit. This thread is making me rethink the back quiver...

For hunting I mostly prefer the bow quiver- a back quiver for stumping. I've also tried the GFA style quiver; basically a bow quiver with a shoulder strap. It didn't work well for me. :thumbdn:

I prefer a bow quiver when hunting. I've tried back quivers and find them to be pain in the neck when it's time to bushwhack. Currently I use the Thunderhorn Boa, which I like a lot.
