Hi!

I opened up an account here today, to get som help/feedback. After searching the internet for a good allround knife, I found the DBK review on the Autine Leuku.
It seemed to be a perfect knife for me, so I contacted Autine to order one. This is how it went.

I ordered a Leuku knife from Autine back in February. I payed 170 Euro (50%) up front, with estimated shipping time in August.

In May I sent an e-mail, asking if August still was the estimated delivery date, and they responded that it was, and that they would get back to me.
Then, in August, I e-mailed them for further updates. No reply. Also sent a note on Messenger. No reply.
Sent new e-mail in the start of September - No reply.
Contacted the European Consumer Authority for help, then sent a new e-mail late September stating that I wanted my order processed and shipped within 10 days (and if so, a small discount for the trouble), or a full refund. - No reply again.
Now I sent the last e-mail today, and I have started a case with the European Consumer Authority to try to get my 170 Euro back, and take my business elsewhere.

I am pi***d that they dont respond, and this is no way to threat their customers. Any others got any troubles with Autine?

Regards,
Magnus

Hi Macnus, I have exactly the same story! This is a SCAM! I too have opened this account to see if others have been ripped off and here is your story. I paid US$150 as a 50% deposit on a Puukko knife, they told me there would be a delay, after 4 months the excuses began. John had a bad back, family problems etc. Now 12 months later after repeated emails they offered me a knife, the picture of it was nothing like the website image, and I would need to send another $150 to them. My contact there was a person called Karline. I then used a friends email address to order another knife and again was offered the same deal - 50% deposit and a wait of 4 months.
I live in New Zealand so my options are limited. This once great company is being used in a very bad way.
My regards, Phillip Beach

Most of the publicity about Autine died out 4-5 years ago. Sometimes this happens. A great reputaion is achieved; the maker gets old and keep taking orders he can no longer fill. He rationalizes that he is is still a person of honor. He dies.

If he‘s dead who keeps taking the orders?

You don't have to be dead to run out oif energy to make the knives you promised to make. They just feel justiied in taking the money as a fraud.

I get that, but I misunderstood what you previously wrote to mean that the guy had died and someone was still selling his knives. Nevermind, I get what you were saying now. You mean the guy is too old to handle all the orders but continues to accept the money.

I was not clear. Sometimes - not all the time - this happens: A great reputaion is achieved; the maker gets old and keep taking orders he can no longer fill. He rationalizes that he is is still a person of honor.

Hi, PBeach here. I have now been refunded my deposit after 12 months. I think John is no longer with Autine. Beware!

Yes! I don’t know if they are no longer in business or what, but I cannot seem to get a response since I placed an order months ago. I am very confused as well. Did you ever get your order?

Yeah, sadly I hear that is common these days… I actually tried to buy an axe from them because they claimed to have one left in stock, but (I guess luckily) they stopped responding before I could give them my money haha. Don’t get me wrong, I would’ve actually loved to have the axe: I’ve heard great things from those who’ve received their products. Unfortunately, it seems that the past 5+ years they’ve really dropped the ball on the business side of their business…

Has anyone had experience with “Northmen” (aka Northmen Guild) products? They are another company that uses the “John Neeman” brand name, but it seems to me they have a don’t have the same reputation for stealing money. Autine did a good job turning me away from anything holding the John Neeman brand, but I like to keep a fair/open mind. It would be great to hear from someone who has dealt with them. Thanks in advance!

It doesn't look as a pure scam personally to me, as Autine seems to be a pretty large public company based in Latvia. Here is it's public profile with a phone number.

However I wouldn't pay them in advance either and to Northmen Guild as well. Honestly saying I just don't understand their price politics. An axe is just an axe, what so special abt Autine axes is you guys pay 500 dollars for them? I mean, you can have all line of Hultafors axes for these money, all of them - a spitting maul, a forest axe, a small hatchet, all Hultafors axes will be yours without waiting and for a reasonable price. So Autine seems to be very very arguable. But also Autine is not a scam. They exist, they pay taxes, them are more or less public.
