who is the maker of the first axe, I have one and haven't seen that mark before except on the one I have, it looks like a man swinging an axe, closest I can find is west German made, but any idea on the maker? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks and good looking bunch of axes

sorry that last post was for M3mphis, he posted a group of pics a while back and the axe in his first pic is the one in question. The post was from probably page 1 or 2 of this thread. Sorry for the response w/o quote to reference.

River warrior, I see you made it to Bozeman. I visited MR today. I hade my Helm Forge aka Storm Crow Wrecker in my pack but I didn't think to get a good photo op like you. It looks good.

A few hatchets I brought back to life. The one on the right is a Hults Bruk and the other I have not ID'd.

Other than the Grans SFA and the Kershaw Camp Knife, what are we looking at here?

The axe was a Keen Kutter. It was given to me but badly damaged. I cut the damaged parts off and made a freak out of it. The knife is an Aranyik E-nep K-1. It comes from Thailand.

It is oak. I picked it up at a Farm and Fleet, had it fitted before I noticed, It's a House Handle. I kind of like it.

I like it. I have been wondering what the odd looking handles are in one of my local hardware stores and now that I've seen yours I am sure they are oak as well. I think I might try me one now. I just didn't realize they made them from oak and I think the gallon of lacquer on them is deceiving - makes me wonder if they can be requested when ordering online.

I would suspect you could request what you want from House Handle. They seem to be disposed to special orders. I really liked how the oak took the linseed oil. It took on a much deeper honey tone than the hickory does and one coat was all it took to be pretty good looking. I wonder about the strength of the oak vs. the hickory. The oak seems heavier and to be honest I haven't done my homework on the different wood used for handle, although I may try my first ash handle by using and old baseball bat. Thoughts?
