I have the old XX for a while but got the Life Member a few months ago. You cant see the scratch with the naked eye..but the flash sure brings it out!! Reese plans to clean it up for me when I get time to get it down to him. Love the Big Folders

daddy barlows are one of my favorite patterns, however i'm kinda skimping on that pattern, I only have one (whole that is, I have three torn down for customization). However, just in time for the thread I picked this kauffmann up this morning.

Yes I have an old schrade barlow I've had since I was about 10. I have retired it but every once in a while it will find its way in my pocket for old times sake. I will try to post a picture later.

God bless you Obadiah Barlow of Sheffield, England!

Anyway here is another one I got in a trade from VCM3. Mervin Masters. I don't know if it is a production or custom or anything else about it. Please sing out if you know anything.

Which famous fictional character in American literature mentions 'a bran-new Barlow worth two bits in any store'?

Wouldn't be some fella in a book by Sam Clemens, would it?

I knew Mervin Masters, he was an old man I used to see at the Louisville show years ago. He always wore bib overall and would walk around the show peddleing these pocket knives he made. He made them out of files and got the bone from Tommy Shouse which is where I was getting it at the time. He died a long time ago but his knives make him live on.

Great history on Mervin Masters!. Thank You Tony, much obliged to you for that bit of information.

Well, that was from Tom Sawyer by Mark Twain (Sam Clemens) wasn't it?

Nevermind, the "two bits in any store" was from Huck Finn.

Has anyone got a Barlow with the bolster only on one side?

I read they made some like this for cheapness in the old days.

Sure like to see a picture if you have.

I believe I'm only "bolstered" on one side. :D

But I'll have to check my accumulation.

Bill
