I had an old bed frame laying in the back yard for ages so while I was doing some spring cleaning I decided to hual off whatever scrap metal worth it's weight to the local scrap yard and so I decided to cut these frame rails down to a more manage to fit in back of my old 92 escort hatchback, so with my trusty angle grinder and new cutoff blades I began to cut the longer pieces in halves when I noticed some nice lil fireworks likes bursts coming out of the Sparks, so I don't have much experience in knife making, just what I'vee gathered from TV n internet besides some used sawblade throwing knives and a broken file I ground an edge on and whittled a wood handle I glued on with construction adhesive (which surprisingly worked excellent), but those extra bursts at the end meant it was high carbon, so diging around I found an old hammer head and I know 100% it was a high carbon steel and compared the Sparks that came off it and they were very similar so I'm not sure if all bed frames aren't made from the same types of Steel but I can almost one hundred percent guarantee the one that I cut up and have now made a couple blades from are some type of high carbon steel I wish I could confirm exactly what kind but it is definitely hardened that I've had to try several different tempering cycles to get any file to cut into it, the only thing I haven't done is actually heat treating it after it's been annealed, no point since I'm only do stock removal and IDK what steel it is not do I have a way to get up to temp so that's my experience with using bed frames to make blades,
P.s.
If anyone does manage to find themselves a good frame that is hardened or able when you it on its fulcrum you end up a 11/2" and 1" wide strips that is almost perfect sizes for either a Small Hunter/Bushcraft or larger Bowie/fighter/survival style so 2 blades per length of frame
