Benchmade 705 ???

I noticed the Professor's sale of his pre-production 705s too late and missed out.

I'm going to be getting the 705BT soon and I'd also like to get the 705 Knife of the Month (for a reasonable price).

Codeman, where did you get your KOTM 705?

Dean

Prof - thanks for reminding me! :( That is the perfect 705!

Dean - I got them from a local dealer when they came in. He gets at least 1 of each special run that Benchmade puts out. I haven't been by in a few months, though, so I don't know what he's got at the moment. I bought all 4 of my 705's from him. The nice thing is that he doesn't display them. They're kept out of the general public's eye so he can make sure they find a nice home! I'll check and see if he's got any more of the 705 special runs next time I'm there. If you've got an extra Forum 705, may we can work something out with the KOTM version...

Very decent knife, and I owned two of them but the handle was a little too small for my hands which of course is something very personal and subjective. I prefer my mini-afck in M2 for a smaller knife( OH PLEASE God make a mini-afck with the axis lock available before I die) and the 710 in M2 is my favorite larger folder.

I owned the 705 for a brief week a couple of years ago. I was very impressed with its quality and that smooth axis lock. I traded it for the 940 because the bigger knife was more useful for me at the time. Also, the handle on the 705 seemed too thick for the blade attached and it turned out that I prefer the Spydie hole for smaller knives because I feel the hole gives me more knife to work with. The thumbstud gets in my way and effectively shrinks the size of the knife, for example slicing through food like apples. Still, it was a good looking well-made knife.

It seems to me that the 770 was a more proportioned package than the 705. I don't know for sure, but I believe that Benchmade shrunk the axis lock mechanism a bit to be more proportioned to the smaller blade. I have only held the 770 briefly, so can't say for sure.

David

 I have the 705 HSCFBC1 story goes a company ordered 100 or so for its employees but the buyer changed his mind part way through production..so I have a 1 of 37 made :D but...I'll probably be putting it up for sale in the next few days due to reoccurring stomach problems[sick leave from work] the only thing added to it was the bronze washers,I hated the nylon or what ever BM used at that time.Otherwise this is a very cool knife..and it has the presentation box also.

I, too, love the 705.

I have a Standard 705, G-10, plain edge, a limited one, aluminium and bubinga wood handle, D2 blade, and just received my 707. Great little knife !
You can't go wrong with that !

Got a 705 a while's back. Love the handle size. Don't much care for the blade though :o Much prefer the look of the 707 blade (but don't like the handle! :( ) .. can't win em all I guess

Love the 710 (which I also have) but find it 'just' a little too large for EDC. Won't be selling it though :D

I've had 2 or 3 of the 705, and they are an excellent, stout little folder. The 705 and 710 makes for a perfect EDC pair, as they are the SAME knife, in different sizes.

Another strong fan of the 705! I rotate the 705 and a small Sebenza daily. The small Sebenza accompanies me M-F (I work in an office) and the 705 keeps me company on the weekends.

It has been this was for 2 years. I want from nothing...although, I am now eyeing a Case Whittler. I am feeling the need to get a bit nostalgic as my mother just passed along a few of my, now deceased, grandfather's knives. I figured if slipjoints kept him company for 87 years, then they may fit the bill for me as well...

Well said, i do EDC a pair of them aswell, a 705 and 710 :D

Leaves my 707, for dress occasions.

I dont find the handle too thick myself, i find it reassuring in the grip and peace of mind, she is not going to flex apart or the like while under loads.

Peace

I think the 710 is one of the all-time greats, but I couldn't really get into the 705. The ergonomics aren't there for me at all.

For a dressier Axis model, I'd look at the aluminum Osbornes. I had the full-CF model (maybe a 770?) a while ago, but I sold it. It was so light that there wasn't enough Axis-fun to be had.

My 705BW has been sitting in the drawer. I loaned it to GF so she would quit trying to swipe my 960. I always liked the 705 as a cutter but I found the handle a bit thick for my purposes. The 707 looks very cool.

I own a couple of 705's, and I will probably get more for variety. I like it a lot. However, Nothing beats a mini afck for versatiity. Robow, I'm sorry, but the axis lock is a complete piece of crap - don't hope for it in a mini afck. If I snap open hard any axis lock knife it will get stuck and is very hard to close. No matter how hard I snap open a liner lock (and I practice every day), it always unlocks with zero effort. The mini afck 812/814 is far and away the best pocket knife in the history of mankind. Thank You
