How’s your very cool FR16 project coming along ? It’s seems like a beautiful beast and I’m sure I’m not alone in being very excited to see it.Trying to get the FR16 finished in time for the Outlaw Cut. It's CPM 4V.
Brad at Peters' did a "bladesports" heat treatment and it tested out at 63-64 HRC.
Hardened steel will skate a file. This just about skates sandpaper. 3 days of numerous 20 minute sessions to get the first side to a pretty clean 120 grit. I'll do the other side then stone wash...

You are in luck Sir!How’s your very cool FR16 project coming along ? It’s seems like a beautiful beast and I’m sure I’m not alone in being very excited to see it.
DUUUUUUUUDE!!!!!!You are in luck Sir!
I finished sculpting the handle yesterday.
My plan for all black changed course when I realized that I only had a piece of red micarta for the liners. The blade without handle was 27oz. Right now it sits at 33oz, so 6 oz of handle. It's stall mat rubber over micarta liners.
I was shaping it with a 24 grit ceramic belt. Forget about unbuffed canvas micarta or teratuf, this is the grippiest handle going. It has a really nice dead feel on impact. It's perhaps on the thicker side, but I can't put material back. I'm going to sharpen it and test it a little before possibly fine tuning the handle shape.
I'm still thinking about the final bevel angle. Nathan does 15dps on the race chopper and 18dps on the practice. I don't want to bounce off the straws, but with a 2-handed swing I don't want to destroy it on the 2x4 either...

You're more than welcome to give it a spin. I'm going in with zero practice so I'll be curious how it does for others.Very very excellent ! I look forward to seeing it, both in person and in action. You sir, are a giant amongst men.
Very kind of you and appreciated. I’d offer you the use of my Racing Chopper, as well. It’s going to be such a fun weekend !You're more than welcome to give it a spin. I'm going in with zero practice so I'll be curious how it does for others.
Thanks. It's all my friend, who's the best fence craftsman in the area. Pounded PT posts (not dug), properly braced and tensioned, electrified upper, about 2 acres worth. From the pictures you look like you have that fencing thing worked out. Nice straight lines!
Ohhh snap!!!
Those two little ones at the top look real intriguing. I'd be interested.
