Best 3 Day Backpack (In your experience)

Google Kelty Falcon 2850
If you wore a Redwing for 5 years you'll love this. Call it a kicked up Molle Redwing military pack.
Nice thing about Kelty is their version of " Coyote" is almost O.D.

That is really nice I have to look into that a little further, my Kelty has stood the test of time so I like thier products.

no. Its made in the USA, and is very well made. Its not a Kifaru pack, but the quality for the price (i paid $200 CDn, so about $150 USD) is impeccable.

I have been very pleased with the CamelBak HAWG. The capacity is about 1200CC, but I added three MOLLE pouches. I can carry the items I feel I need to last three days, or a bit more, covering water, food, shelter, comfort and security.

I've been using this style of daysack for about 12years and it's great for me:
Berghaus Munro

One main compartment and one zip compartment in the top flap. Holds about 35-45L depending on which model/maker you go for. Super light, simple, enough on attachment points on the outside to allow for roll mats, poncho etc to be attached without giving you the ability to strap the kitchen sink on. Also it's a decent length to allow you to get your longer gear (axe, poles etc) inside or strapped to the outside with no problems. Lastly I prefer it for it's straight up and down form. I don't like the packs that are wider at the bottom than top as it encourages me to put weight down there and develop poor packing discipline.

Blackhawk Cyclone. I have been using one daily for years now. Mine is the early version with a small amount of PALS. The newer version is covered with them. I also have the expansion kit which has two pods for attachment to the sides, as well as a sleeping bag sack.

Kifaru is still selling some of their G1 products. They have the Express for around 190 and the Marauder for 225. I would check those out.

ATS R.A.I.D II

This one has pouches already added but the basic pack has MOLLE on the front, sides and inside front. Made in the USA. Great quality. Under $200.

To give an idea of size. I am 5' 10" and chunky.

 Is the Tactical Tailor bag a knockoff?

I bought a knockoff of a certain popular bag and was not impressed with it at all. The fabric was thin, the stitching was horrible and the pouch advertised to hold a Nalgene was too small for a Nalgene. I sent it back and bought the real deal which was only a few bucks more.
I have no experience with TT so have no opinion on that brand name.

The Eberlestock Gunslinger II is an awesome pack. Got to play with one and it's next on my list. You can toate a rifle if you like and without the rifle scabbard it's a great little 3 day pack by itself. Lot's of pals, plenty of accessories. And they're built like tanks. Here's a link: http://www.eberlestock.com/G2 Gunslinger II.htm

I also have a 3100 Redwing that I used to use and last year I upgraded to a Gregory Z55 that I love. Trust me, you have no idea how back your treating yourself with that Redwing as compared to the newer packs. I bought the Z-55 for three reasons after MUCH research.

1) Fit - if you are carrying over 20lbs for any amount of time, having a pack that rides on your body right makes all the difference. The Redwing really isn't even in the same conversation as Gregory and Osprey when it comes to comfort and fit.

2) The huge air channel on the back. This makes such a huge difference in keeping your back from getting soaked with sweat and feeling miserable. Osprey also has this.

3) Weight. IMO - a lot of the packs listed so far are over built for trail use. I imagine these are great for actual military or other rough use situations, but for backpacking, it just means extra weight. It also goes the other way, some of the ultra-light packs put weight savings to far above comfort for me. I mean, why not just take a Hefty back and tie a kite string on it???

I went with the Gregory over an Osprey because the Gregory fit my wide shoulders and big neck better. Gregory and Osprey definitely are not hard use packs, but like all things it's about trade offs and they are tough enough for trail use and definitely well made.

I really dig that pack!

I'll throw in a vote for Eagle Industries. Made in the US. I've carried one for about 8 years now and it's still going strong.

Forget the tactical bags.

In my opinion, the most comfortable bag I have ever worn with about 35lb. load is the Deuter Aircontact lite 65+10 http://www.rei.com/product/765140

My wife even has the women's version http://www.rei.com/product/780518

For $180 you can easily fit everything you need for a 3 day trip to a week long trip, and it is Extremely comfortable. And at under 4lbs. it's reasonably light for it's carry capacity.
I've tried similarly sized $300 packs that weren't near as comfortable as this one.

One suggestion I will make though, is to try on any pack you are considering buying, loaded with your usual back weight. REI will fill any of there packs with sandbags to your desired weight and let you walk around with it as long as you want. What is comfortable for one person may not be so comfortable for another.
