Best cutting knife?

That fixed blade does look like a contender. It all comes down to geometry, and that one has all the elements in place.
It would be this for me too. Drew makes one hell of a nice knife! The edge on mine is so thin, it's almost imperceptible. It almost just blends into the blade grind. A true zero edge.

Believe it or not, my old Remington stockman also slices like a demon:

Don't know if any of you are old enough to recall the guys who use to sell a Glass Knifes in the old F & W Woolworths Stores in the 50's, and 60's. Those knives were sharp, and I love standing for hours watching the pitchmen, do their presentation.

When I was about twelve I bought one of the beast, think they case three to five dollars, and learned to do all the thing the pitchmen could do with those glass knives.

Found an old photo of the beast in Google archives.

Sometimes the cheap stuff works just as well as the expensive. My $3 Victorinox paring knife cuts better than any of the $100+ folders I own. As Cliff Stamp once said: steels don't cut, edge geometry cuts.

It won't hold an edge as long as M390 and you can't baton it through an oak tree, but for pure cutting tasks it is second to none.

So, so true. Everyone talks about "mora killers" they just don't know about these.

...the best in terms of slicing???

As posted in a previous thread, two of my favorite slicers:

The edge geometry is what makes a knife a slicer.

This pair, in 52100, are easy to keep scary sharp.

Besides the obvious Opinel and many thin traditional folders, the Ontario Rat 2 and the BRK ESEE Avispa get my vote. Delica 4 gets honorable mention, and so does the Centofante 3 and 4. All fall into the "extreme slicer" category.

A simple, basic SAK will be among the best pure slicers, often outperforming knives that cost 10x as much.

I'm pretty fond of the way my William Henry knives cut. And they look real good doing it, too. :)

Spyderco Calypso for food prep. Nice long thin blade.
Interesting find on cutting cardboard...I recently sprang for a home theater sys. T.V. And all so lots of cardboard to cut.
So, I used the BM 810 M4, ZT 0350, Spyderco Yojimbo 2, Spyderco Manix 2 and a SOG Visionary 2.
The Visionary 2 cut circles around the others.
Cheers

Of all of the knives you've handled, which has cut the best in terms of slicing? For me, I would say it's between the Allen Ellishewitz MTK and the Cold Steel Talwar. How about you guys?

Why do you want to know? Its a bit a boyish question. (sorry for my expression)
In my world "Best" doesn't exist without reference.
Best in certain conditions, certain use or other reference. On its own its just a hollow phrase.

But to fullfill your desire to know:
My sharpest till now was a simple razorblade in a special handle to clean my glass cooking device.

:o

Well I hate to choose it over many blades I like better but the standard replaceable blade box cutter is hard to beat for pure slicing ease. But for the more versatile "real" knives opinel is probably the best, sak's, most traditional slipjoints especially usa schrades, and the spyderco millie is pretty great too because it has alot of belly, length, leverage and ergos over the other blades.

Boyish question?

And just what does that "glass cooking device" cook? I bet I can guess......

No question. My Cold Steel Kudu and Eland. These things are wicked sharp. Next on the list would be any of my Opinels. These are also scary sharp. All of these take a better edge than all of my other knives. I can get them almost as sharp as my Dovo straight razor.

Ah there is the forum parasite again . . .

You have a serious problem with interpretation of things.
Best for you is to bang your head to the wall till your brains coming out.

Noone will miss your stupid posts.
You really have nothing intelligent to say, only looking for trouble.
Irritating pig.
