I was reading through the thread "ryans roll call" (love those types of thread:D ) when I realised that my keyring is painfully light compared to others on the forum. It NEEDS beefing up a bit. So I was wondering what the best keyring gadget you have either seen used or own is? I'm looking for ideas for mine to hopefully get it on par with those in the thread. Any suggestions? Please please please contribute to the "save smat's keyring cause".
I thank you :D ;)

In my opinion, one of the most practical things you could add to your keychain is a Leatherman Micra or a SOG Crosscut. The Victorinox classic was great, but I think that the Micra/Crosscut took it another step higher in a very manageable package. And everyone needs some kind of light--whether it be a photon II (III sucks), or an Arc AAA, etc. Glowring is pretty cool too.

Great thread, I'm also looking to add something cool to my (practically naked) keyring.

I love my Leatherman Micra and my Photon IIs, but I'd like to add a glowring, Arc AAA, and Spy Capsule. :D

GLOWRING

No keyring should be without one. Putting one on my wife's keychain has saved me hours over the last few years.

I suggest the Leatherman Micra, unless its' extra weight may be something you wouldn't want.

I used to have the my Micra on my keychain, but after I started adding extra gadgets to my keychain(and more keys), it became somewhat cumbersome so I removed it. I found that it was more useful just carrying it in pocket. :D

P.S.-stjames, where did you get your glowring? It's just about the only thing that I'm missing from my 'chain. ;)

Got my Arc AAA and a Victorinox signature.

I used to have the Micra as well and it was a great tool for the keychain. Lost mine on a camping trip though.

My keyring is a mess. Too many keys -- not enough room for junk!

I've culled all the keys I can. I envy you guys who can live with only 2-3 keys.

I would say really ... if you are going for less is more, then the only two things you need on the chain are a photon II (White or Turquoise) & Leatherman (Scissor) Storm Gray Squirt. IMHO

PJ,

On preorder as we speak ... will let you know.

However there is a place you can buy them right now online, I will have to look for the link

Thanks,

Ryan

My keychain has a half dozen keys and sometimes more. It also has light (Photon III/glowring), fire starting (Mg/ferrocium rod), tools (micra or new Schrade "Tough Chip"), signaling device (whistle). I notice that food, water, and shelter are not a part of my keyring kit...

I like the ASP Key Defender. I have one that I have had to use once and I'm a believer! It's big and strong enogh to be used as a kubotan and has a very effective OC formulation (I don't know who makes it).

There's a new glow ring auction on eBay (LINK). It's open through the 15th.

Also, I did some poking around and learned the Spy Capsules are made (or at least wholesaled) by Bison Designs. REI sells them, but the best deal I've seen is through a member of these forums (LINK).

Of course we can't forget the little gadget I made from a broken Micra. I call it the keyman. Just make sure to "locktite" the main pivot screw ... and make sure it's super tight for heavy resistance.

*Locktite can be loosened by heating item with a blow-dryer.

I have tried to thin my keyrings back down a lot in the past few months, and the only thing that both keyrings have on them 100% or the time are a Photon light and a Glowring. A handcuff key and a P38 can opener are also very handy to have around.

Vehicle keys have a d-jammer, Photon II Turq, handcuff key, p3b can opener and a blue Glowring.

House keys have a Photon I blue, a short paracord wrist lanyard and a old-style yellow Glowring.

I have tried a bunch of little knives and multitools, but eventually decided that they mainly added bulk to the keys, and that they worked as well just carried in a pocket when i wanted them. Really do like the little Victo Midnight Manager with its scissors and pen and led light though.....
