I recently obtained the full set 1x2 Tear Drop Slip Stone Set - Naniwa Chosera to add to my larger Japanese Whetstone collection.
Figured these would be perfect for trips. 400, 600, 800, 1K, 2K, 3K, 5K, and 10K grit. They fit nicely in the smallest container.
For $39 not including shipping I can sharpen like better than ever.
Naniwa Pro is one of the weirdest line ups I know of. So crowded on the low-mid end.
I realize that's it's not meant as a normal progression and a lot of series have no coarse stones or are exclusively mid-grit, but it's odd.

Back to the OP - it's more bang for the buck than best, but there are folding DMT Dia Fold knock-offs that are less than $10 each. They are 400/1000, which I like better than DMT's option of coarse/fine

Dmt diafolds seem to work the best out of all for field sharpening,or any touchups, they leave nice toothy crispy edge thats hair whittling sharp,on all steels.

I got opinel mini steel, sharpened a victorinox yesterday,it works ok,but dmt is the best out of all ive seen by now,i also got 2 other diamond credit card sharoeners that were on sale (dirt cheap) in local store,Sharpnal brand, never heard about it but has many positive rewievs on amazon.

Norton sold a combination pocket stone. It was called the Sportsman Stone. Don't know if it is still available. Another option would for softer steels would be the Coghlan's Sharpening Stone. You can find this stone for less than 10$. The pouch is garbage. I made a DIY-leather pouch.

EZE-LAP CD4 (which seems to be the same as EZE-FOLD 530).

Fällkniven FDD and FDC.

the blade medic looks heavy-ish. yesterday i sharpened 2 big kitchen knives with 1 RRS, which effectively is a pocket size sharpener imho. light-weight.

I love these things:

FortyTwoBlades FortyTwoBlades did a great job with these things. I will even use one when I'm too lazy to fetch the bigger field stone version.

Victorinox pen style sharpener. I rarely use anything more these days, unless I want to re-profile a blade or fix something major on the edge.

Another idea, taken right from Mr. Horace Kephart is to glue 2 different grits of emery cloth on either side of a piece of cardboard.

I rarely need to use a sharpener in the field but, DMT Diafolds and a Spyderco Double Stuff are what I use when necessary.
