Best SUNGLASSES OT

I have been wearing Oakley's for years. I have a couple different pairs. One for
shooting, one for looking cool.

I am surprised no one mentioned RAYBAN. I had Baloramas and Predators with the G15 lenses that I loved.

My wayfarers are RayBan, the old ones say B & L Ray Ban USA, the new ones say Ray-Ban Made in Italy, not sure if B&L still grinds the lenses.

I've always liked the B&L glass lens.

I was never a fan of sunglasses until I worked as a lifeguard. I found that the Rayban G something lens Aviators did not cut it. I would leave work at the end of the with tears literally running down my eyes.

I went to an optomatrist who recomended Oakleys or Maui Jims. I bought a pair (Kahuna model grey glass polarized) and I am sold on Mauis.
Haveing also used numerous sunglasses to watch the glaring bright waters the ones that worked for me are as follows, Oakleys have the clearest polycarbonate lenses I have ever seen but they do scratch fairly easily (I like my sunglasses near spotless) and they did in my bag I got a replacement pair which disapeared in the water during a rescue, Next was the Serenghetti summit model (wrap around) kind of nice but they are thinner glass than my first Mauis one pair broke in my bag (now I always use a hard case) and the replacement pair disappeared from the locker room. I bought a pair of glass Hobies polarized discount online that I bent to wrap around me and they worked fine I lent it out and they were scratched, lots of people out there just cannot live without idiot proof items. I have also tried Arnetts polarized which are pretty good and enconomically priced, they belonged to a friend.

There are the designer glasses which have fashion fashionable frames and Ray Ban lenses, for the price you pay for those you can buy something that looks just as good but is also one solid functional piece of hardware like Maui Jims or something that looks acceptable and has much better glare reduction than Ray Ban lenes like Arnetts.

Mau Jim Started making thick polycarbonate wraps with Maui Rose colored lenses which I use to this day although I still have my original glass Kahuna without a scratch that are ~10 years old the polys a safer for bike riding and sports. Two pairs of polys have disappeared at my current job when I forgot to take them. I tend to buy a new pair of sunglasses every year. I guess an old lifeguard habit that didn't die. I brought pair a blue poly Revos on sale this year when I went outside in the bright sun and put them on I noticed a scratch, I returned them immediately and almost bought another pair when I thought about the many times I bought and saw unscratched glasses at this sunglass hut. I knew the staff there routinely cleans and takes care of them. I wondered if it would take much to scratch the poly Revos, I didn't care to find out, I bought a replacement for my missing Maui instead.

The reason why I am a Maui fan (and also a wrap around fan) is I find them to be the best in terms of practicality and function with the added benifit of rocking when it comes to looks and style. Most of them are wraps they have scratch proof coating, inner antireflective coatings, polarization, a coating that causes water to form drops and roll off with minimum streaking which by the way makes cleaning the glasses feel smooth and friction free, also some sort of patented gradiant tinting that make yours eyes feel relaxed is implemented, the clarity of their glass lenes rock and I find the clarity of their polycarbonate to be second only to Oakley. I asked a dealer about that and was told that you trade off some clarity for scratch proof, but belive me with the Maui Jims it's barely noticable. I have had a kid take my Poly Mauis and literally twist the frames all the way around and try to break them, they just sprung back into shape.

Mauis are not cheap but they do not cost more than other quality sunglasses but the beneficial difference I get is noticable to me.

I have a couple of pairs of Oakley's...the shooting array and the "navy seals" variant (matte black frame, polarized grey lens, and gun metal colour logo) of the Standard Issue M-frame

I also wear these when I want to be even lower profile :)

I had a friend that was burned badly in an accident and he had to wear stuff like that when he went outside too.

I have found, for me, the perfect sunglasses. Well made, very lightweight, a Busse-like guarantee, and fairly classic in design, neutral grey, polarized. Priced considerably lower than the brands mentioned. Most comfortable glasses I ever had on.

And no, I am not going to say what they are, because I want to pick up another pair when they show up again on E-Bay, and I don't want to have to compete with you guys.:D

I do believe that Revo, Maui Jim and Costa Del Mar are the best snglesses money can buy. None of them are cheap. Technology wise revo and Costa Del Mar both have better lense technology, however, Maui Jim seems to have some of the better frame styles and I do like their Rose lenses. You really can't go wrng with any of these three IMO.

I only get Glass Lenes, unless I am using them for sport and then I go with Scott Diablo's with interchangeable lenses. Plastic lenses do not last me long. They scratch way to easily so interchangeable lenses is a must.

Get yourself some Cheap Sunglasses! (ZZ Top :D  )

I either break or lose mine so I keep getting the cheap ones from Walgreens. Do the job and cheap enough so I can just get a new pair when I break the old ones. Eye glasses and sun glasses are such a rape job anyway. Do you really think it costs them much more than a couple of bucks to make??

you can say that about knives as well, can't you. And it is quite untrue in both cases. :D

Delightful - simply delightfu!!!

Or even breadmakers!!

you girls can play that game:jerkit:

Tony, I get my Revo's in Las Vegas. They have a place n the Forum Shops that closes them out dirt cheap (50% off)

I have never had good luck with sunglasses, or glasses for that matter.

I finally settled on a cheap, $6 design sold at Grainger that is impact rated, and cheap.

They are lost, broken, given to customers, etc. far too often for me to put money into them.

I have a work buddy that wears the high dollar stuff, but he is nowhere near as hard as me on glasses.

IIRC, he wears Serengetis with glass lenses. Does that sound right?

I think he said you can get a pair for around $125.

that sounds right. Serengettis are actually very nice. Their driver lense is probably one of the nicest lenses made.

Terry, even a cheaper pair of quality lenses are better for your eyes than 6 dollar crap. In other words if you go to REI and get Julbo's for 30 bucks or you go to Performance Bikes and get Scotts on closeout for 25 bucks, they are much better than the crap you wear now. The main reason is that they are distortion free for the most part, which reduces the strain your eyes have to make to make up for with the distortion in cheap lenses. Get Headaches? Also, cheap stuff says UV rated, but most really aren't 100%, can you say cataracts, etc.

the only sunglasses i've ever found that look okay on me are foster grant.

that being said, i prefer dollar mart since i dont have to worry about losing them :D

I spend a lot of time on the water, in the sun, and I like Oakleys or Maui Jims, for sports and day to day activity.

For the shooting range and protective eyewear I wear Wiley's JP-2s. They have the highest safety ratings I have ever seen. The blast might kill you but your eyes might survive;)
