Bk11 scales?

What is a CNC machine? G-10 scales are being sold for other knife models and at a lower price than micarta. Why would the BK-11 differ?

Computer Numerical Cutter or something. Essentially once a design is programed through it can grind it out at the touch of a button. There's nothing different about making scales for the BK-11, if you wanted to make some you can, there's just no one out there who's currently putting out G-10 for the 11.

Computer Numerical Control.
Generally a large mill that automates the cutting process. You set it up with the cutters and tools you expect to need, and program it generally by supplying a formatted CAD file, and it does all the "work."
Of course, the programming and setup takes more time than actually running a part, so they're generally used in prototype and low volume production environments where high precision is required, and several parts are going to be made, but not enough to justify making a mold or die for it. They tend to be pretty pricey, from a garage/small shop perspective.

I haven't made scales for my 11 yet - but I think I want 'em a little larger than the factory micarta, and I'll want to match 'em to a 15 and a 5. So I'm thinking I'll have Tommy work me up a matched set in a tough, stable wood when I get ready to proceed.

I added the KABAR micarta to my BK11 (san mai version). I had to do some fitting as the san mai specs are a little different. Like you I use the knife for game and paracord would be a mess. I also added the KABAR TDI clip to the sheath as it is a little heavy for neck carry IMHO. I plan to make a dangler for it, someday.
