BK2 - First Becker - First Mods - New Obsession

You are braver than I. I wanted to do a forced patina from day 1, but waited until I had worn most of the black from the blade. Then stripped and patina'd her and gave her handle some filed lines for traction.

Looks good! Post up yer mods in this thread if you get a second: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/s...fications-and-Inspirations-Thread-NO-CHATTING!

As far as a darker patina, here is how I did it: soak blade in warm vinegar, remove, rinse, dry, repeat. After about seven times my BK14 went from silver to a deep blackened color. It wore off, but it wore off as it was developing it's own deeper patina, so it worked out.

Thanks everyone for the kind words and encouragement! It is all very much appreciated. Now if I could just get my hands on a Machax I could really have some fun!! I'll post my next job shortly, thanks again!

Good stuff brother.

Welcome to the club.

Way to rip it apart and mod the $hit out of it.

Like it.

Nice work! I really like my 2. Almost as much as my 9. Maybe that should be your next one until you can get a Machax.

it looks great! are you finding the handle to be any less comfortable to the bare hand?

Handles are great! I posted earlier that when I first treated the handles, they were EXTREMELY rough! Sanding, testing, sanding, testing, more sanding, etc. was the only way to find a happy medium between comfort and functionality. Now they're perfect! However, my hands are big, and I would say that in retrospect, the treatment came down a little too far. I left the bottom third or so of the scales untreated so there would be no friction while chopping... in the field, it turns out I missed the mark by a couple of centimeters - my thumb and forefinger still rub against the treatment a little bit so the bottom is now sanded down more than you see if the pictures to decrease the "rub" as much as possible.
