Guessing they will be the new San Mai from Taiwan? My first BBC (AUS8) was from Taiwan, back in the 90s. Back then couldn't justify the cost of the Japan version, but wanted one so bad. And then I got a Special Projects flyer that offered Taiwan versions for half the price. Guess they had a batch made to test the production capabilities or something (there were some Taiwan R1's back then too). It was beautiful, and couldn't imagine the Japan version being any better. Many years later I got a Japan version so was able to compare them, and I was right, it wasn't any better. And in fact the only difference I remember at all was that the pins used to hold the handle scales on were slightly different diameter between the two. Funny how things come full circle...
