Blade Show 2025

USCBP is getting very aggressive when it comes to searching people's phones, among other things. Canadians face the possibility of detention by the US if denied access across the border.

I'm out over $800 for catching some kind of bad, weird flu to bail on my trip to Nathan and Jo's for the annual shindig last year, and was hoping to recoup part of my flight credit by going this year, but things are deteriorating so much that I think there is little possibility of me crossing that border any time soon.

I wish this were an LOL situation, but it's all very scary and bad :(

I hate that it’s giving you anxiety. Very sorry to hear politics come in the way of our shared enjoyment of this hobby.

Lorien, your take on the situation is understandable.
(I'm on a travel ban myself right now, even domestically)
Realistically I don't think they have the band width to give everyone the full treatment. They are mostly targeting well known people, especially academics, such as the case of a Nobel laureate who had criticized the administration.

yup, these are 'interesting times' for sure. Even the possibility of being singled out for detention makes my skin crawl, I'm a mostly law abiding regular person but that's no guarantee to not be hassled.

things are pretty, um...awkward right now and I can't imagine that things will become more or less normal any time soon. The forces that have been put into play are not the kind that fizzle out on their own. It's not even politics, it's just the way that things are actually going.

it's a little weird for me- cutlery in general is one of my few passions, and this is something I share with all you folk. In fact, most of my friends are American due to that fact. All my friends up here are mostly bike people who don't understand why knives are cool, so there's a whole part of myself that I keep to myself. Blade Show is an amazing experience for someone like me- I was there in 2016, and I don't recall having a single conversation involving politics even though it was a wild election year.

My dad was American, he fought and ultimately died for the US, and I could just as easily have been a US citizen myself. It kills me a little watching things spiral.

soory to derail this thread so much, but just know how much I appreciate and love all my CPK brothers and sisters- regardless of what's happening in the big ole world! Wish I could meet some of you in June.

I think my first trip was with Jo in 2007.

It was only one room, the main room. And it wasn't the entire room, they had a divider up. So it was just most of that room.

It was overwhelming. There was literally too much to see and, at a certain point, you were just walking down the row trying to take it all in but there was really no way to see the whole show properly in one weekend.

And now, it's much bigger.

2007 was my first of two trips. Then 2009. Yes, it was overwhelming. But one thing that knocked me out, and was reinforced on the second trip, was the forged makers section. To see each of those blades, hand hammered out with no small effort, really impressed me as to the value proposition of many of those makers relative to the more common grinder made knives.

Carothers - as quick as I can get there
Hossom - I love some of his designs, but I want a user grade ie: simple micarta or g10 nothing too fancy
Hinderer - I want to try an auto if I get a chance and I’d probably go here second but Hossom is close to CPK
Folts - if he’s there, I could always go for another Minimalist
Demko - I don’t go for their one-offs and if it’s like last year they had plenty of MG stuff

I don’t have any others on my list for this year, yet…

I'll see you there. Got my early bird ticket and hoping I can get to the Strider booth before every single knife is gone (which apparently happens within minutes). I know early bird admission is at 10 but wondering what time the line to get in starts forming outside for early bird admissions? Anyone have any idea what time I should be there to get a good spot in line?
