BladeForums 2024 Traditional Knife

No disrespect or offense taken. I only said that because there are some who don't seem to realize that us non-slipjoint people want to have a Bladeforum knife, but can't seem to convince Spark to get Sebenzas made. (Joking on that part, I know how impossible that would be) But I do get the frustration people who can't read the rules must cause for Spark.
That fancy UG impinda suggests otherwise!! 😁

This year's Bladeforums knife is big and pricey for my taste, but I am super grateful that it is happening regardless.

I usually buy every forum knife, regardless of whether I like it or not, as a way to commemorate the year and support it, and I still may do that if I see it is needed and it’ll help the forum.

Thank you to Spark and everyone involved for continuing this fantastic tradition. I joined in late 2019 and am grateful for this little corner of the Internet. I love seeing new members join and start interacting. Seeing them have an opportunity at a cool Bladeforums knife is awesome, and I have enjoyed them over the years.

Seriously laughing at all the drama we used to have over breaking the $100 price point. I've argued for more than a decade that it didn't make a difference and now that gets confirmed in spades.
I can totally get being upset over price, but the people orchestrating this knife are not trying to make a profit. It's unfortunate that inflation has gotten to be what it is. Not just for knives, but for all things.

Thanks to everyone who made this knife possible this year. You can’t make everybody happy but every year we seem to get something that we haven’t had before. Because of that, I’ll keep buying each year to say thanks to the ones who put in all the work to make it possible. Thanks again and keep up the great effort!

Spark Spark ... how many springs does that big boy have? ... Two or Three?

Still would like to know if 2 or 3 spring design? Spark Spark

Toughest question today ... how many springs?

Lol… this question shall remain unanswered!

I’m assuming 2 since it was described as a Stockman; however, I’ve also been holding off ordering until I know this for sure, as well as the final shield decision. I’m not a big fan of shields in general, so that makes a difference to me.

Just curious, why does the number of springs matter? Just thickness in the pocket Im assuming?

Buck has been building a couple of different 3 spring stockmans for years. The springs are thinner so the overall width isn't any greater than a two spring. The upside is no krinking. The downside is the springs are on the weaker side since they're thinner. Given this is a GEC, I'd bet on it being a two spring.

Case makes one with three springs. Buck makes one with three springs. There may be others.
They are just about the same thickness as a two spring Stockman of similar size.
Never seen a three spring Stockman with a broken spring. Don't think they are very "weak".
I don't like krinked blades and I don't care who made them.
Two springs on a Stockman and more chance of blade rub. Don't like that either.

EDIT: ... and if it were a Canoe pattern, I'd prefer two springs.

Partly because we're all super-exicted and want to know details!

Also, the 3-spring stockman knives don't have a blade bent-inward so that the two small ones can share a spring.

I am _slightly_ concerned by how large this knife will be and making it a 3-spring might make it even more hefty.

Then again, if we're going to use it for hard, heavy work, then it makes perfect sense.

To me, a stockman should be 4" exactly and solid like the GEC 35 but that's just me.

Educated guess......If its anything like the Queen-made jumbo stockman that Bill Howard must be familiar with, 2 springs.
As for thickness, most certainly right about .5".
Krinking? If done right the blades are tapered on one side so they don't hit, not much krinking involved.

I feel like krinking is one of those things that the Internet heard about, made a fuss over, and now everybody is afraid of stockman pattern knives because they assume the blades will be crudely bent and cockeyed.

IMO it’s not common on good knives, or if it’s done, it’s so subtle as to be unnoticeable in the real world use of the knife.
