BladeForums 2024 Traditional Knife

I know you’re at the whim of GEC to a degree in regard to pattern, but a single blade 15, 77, 86 etc. in ebony, cocobolo or any of the popular covers at half the price of this years would sell out 500 knives in no time I’m sure.

I think it’s to a large degree since the forum knives have mostly been patterns either currently in production or the forum knife is the beginning of a pattern and a larger run then follows. If this years knife was a single blade in any pattern and cost $125 of course it’s likely most of them would have sold out, but then we would have had just another single blade knife between 3.5-3.9” like there’s been several years in the past.

For a while in the polls people have been asking for a real 3 blade stockman and now we got one, it’s glorious. Price wise I don’t think it’s too bad considering I see people paying the same $250-300 every damn day for those little single blade GEC knives.

The Forum knife being a traditional is a good thing for many of us, but a lot of people these days want modern stuff. I hate to say it, but there may be more interest in a modern style. Please don't lynch me for saying this as it was painful to say.

I generally avoid getting into discussions that sound like a debate, it’s hard to get the expression across and I have the tendency to sound blunt. Please understand this is not a negative post.

I was simply responding to Sparks concerns about being left with too many knives.

For my part, I don’t care all that much how fancy, novel or popping the forum knife is. To me it’s mostly a momento for being around the great group of people here in the porch. I’m often guilty of being too sentimental about things.
The polls preceded my time but I can also respect if that’s what folks want, as long as they buy them up. I can’t.

And the $250-300 price those little single blades go for highlights the point I was trying to make. If Spark is concerned about clearing them, make it something popular and affordable.

She is a good spinner too. Even better than my previous champ Kabar 1100!!!

The Traditional subforum is one of (if not *the*) most active areas of the board. There have been a few other forum knives, but mostly it has been a porch project. If you think it's tough to get a group as like minded as us to agree on what we want to see, multiply that by 10,000 to get an idea of what it would be like for the whole forum. Most of those who want a modern folder also want to be a special snowflake and have something no one else has.

I'm a stockman fan. I've carried one pretty much every day since 1970. I prefer a large over a small, and I had high hopes in 2008, but got beat out in the polls and ended up with a 34OT size that hasn't seen much use. I've been waiting for this one since then.

Did I love the price? No. Even at the pre-order price it was a strain. Personally, I think GEC is over-rated. They are nice, and it is nice to know they are made the old-fashioned way, and I love the skill that goes into them, but I don't even look at them anymore when I'm thinking of buying a knife. The Traditional forum knives are the only GECs I've bought in years, and this one may well be the last I buy.
