Blank altoids tins - where to buy?

Hello all,

I forgot that my blank altoids tin is apart of a pouch. I don't want to seperate the tin from the pouch. I'm looking to buy a regular old blank altoids tin for my arrow head and blade.

Does anybody know where to buy them at national stores like Walmart, Home Depot, etc?

ESEE sells them for $3 plus S&H. Ebay has them for around the same price.
I'd rather not pay $7 for a $3 tin (shipping adds to the cost)

I could just go to Walgreens and buy an Altoids candy tin for $1.99 but it has Altoids written all over it. I want the tin to be blank. :foot:

Thanks for any help.

Online is the only place I know of. County Comm has them, but it's the same deal. Definitely not cost effective to buy just one tin.

You can fairly easily strip the paint off an altoids tin. I don't remember if the logo is embossed or not though, you could probably pound that flat.

I have a regular tin in front of me and the part that says ALTOIDS and the border around the artwork are both raised.

buy at altoids tin and but it in a media blaster....blast all the stuff off and cerakote or duracoat it.

If there was a market for these I would do it as I have a media blaster and cerakote and duracoat. If you want me to do it for you email me and I will. But as far as cost effective goes....I will do the work for free (in between jobs with left over material) for you but then you run into shipping costs.

FWIW, the Altoids tin is a tad shorter than the tin that comes with the ESEE sheath.

If you want an altoids tin, they are stamped (embossed)... but it can probably be flattened with a hammer (put a block underneath - like hammering a dent out of a car sheetmetal).

If you want actual Altoids tins, I've got a bunch of 'em... just let me know if you want some, pay shipping & they're yours.

i've gotten some of the off brand, sugar free mints and hot cinnamon equivalmints that are not embossed.

i'd suggest the dollar stores or checkout aisles in your area.

rattlecan it if you don't like the paint, or use chemical stripper. beadblasting will remove the plating and any protection that provides.

countycomm.com has them, and some goodies, but the shipping on ONE tin will be silly.

wallyworld has travel soap dishes that are plastic for 97¢, but one side is domed, so it's not as compact, but they're good for boresnakes, just not the 12gauge versions.

Altoids tin, can of spray paint, done. We are talking about survival kits here...none of them are fashionable, nor should they be.

OTOH

Let a random Joe on the street see you carrying an Altoids tin, and he will assume very little. Whip out a tin that is any other color (or bright and bare) and he/she will keep an eye on you and formulate opinions (is that a bomb? are you some sort of freak?). Just a thought...

Oh my.

95% of the world is in condition white. Face buried in their Blackberry, oblivious to the world around them. I don’t think having a plain tin in his kit or pocket is going to threaten his OPSEC.

 I agree & if you build your kit in a tin of choice next thing to do is go to a place that sells Ipod/Cell phone cases and find one that fits your specific tin and you could wear it in plain view and nobody give it a second thought ;)

I agree with you, but just the same, the 5% that might notice (1 in 20) is present. Granted, most (if not all) of the time, the tin will be in my pocket (or otherwise stowed) where no one will see anyway.

Kind of like how/where you carry your knife...I guess there are various philosophies. I just thought I would share mine. Sorry if it came off as alarmist or grumpy...I had a bad morning (hoped into the truck half awake, and the other half of my faculties came on-line as I slid out of my driveway sideways...down a nice steep ice covered hill).:foot:

Could have been worse. Have you ever tried to get into your truck when it is really ice out and ended up slipping and sliding under the truck while in front of a bunch of people you work with?

Yes, years later and they still won't forget it.

altoids tin = urban camo, and the best place to hide stuff is in plain sight. i personaly am putting my kit/kits in otter boxes, for the water tight bonus.

I guess the decision comes down to cost over appearance...

If you want to save money, just buy the tin of mints. If you want a plain, unlabeled tin cough up the extra dough.

A couple bucks shouldn't make a huge difference and neither should an "Altoids" label.

I really think it's 6's either way.

Yes...that is what happened when I pulled up to work.

Another move I have fond memories of is opening my truck door just as a gust of wind caught it and slammed my door into my own head. I had to take a knee on that play and wait for the birds and stars to quit circling my head. When I came around I saw my co-workers laughing their butts off at my expense.

A great bunch of guys they are...we all laugh about this stuff months later.
