Good Day Everyone,

I am contemplating purchasing a Boker Brand traditional, I believe its the Whittler with Beer Barrel scales and has the "Tree Brand" logo with only "Solingen" on it under the tree.

I am wondering what the overall opinion of quality on these current knives. I'm not sure if these are still made in Solingen or if they are built by another company that has the rights to the Boker name and Tree Brand logo.

Any opinions or experiences?

Thanks for the info

As far as I know, they're still made by Boker, sort of.

If the shield says 'Solingen' it's a German knife made of German parts. If the shield says 'Germany' it's assembled in Germany and made of parts that may have been made anywhere.

They're still good knives, both the 100% German and the Germany-assembled knives. The German knives are expensive, the only thing to watch for is that you not overpay for the Germany-assembled knives.

I recently bought the Carvers Congress and was very pleased with the quality.

I have purchased a few Germany-made Bökers recently, and they all have good fit and finish and good walk and talk. As long as it says Solingen on the tang or shield, you should get good quality.

I have a Boker Beer Barrel Copperhead and I really like it. :)

As others have said... The Beer Barrel series are stamped with "Solingen" and are made and assembled in Germany.

The blade is a nice C-75 carbon steel (1075 basically I believe) and takes a very good edge. As with any high carbon steel, you'll want to take good care of it as you'll get pepper spots rather easily (I have a few on mine from being put away wet during a weekend of prospecting). The acid etch is ever so slightly faded on my specimen but still plenty clear and visible.

Overall the fit and finish is really solid with the only issue being the rivet holes. They could have done a slightly better job drilling out the holes to get rid of some of the excess wood (visible in the picture)... Other than that, it's great! The wood meets up flush with the bolsters and there are no gaps in the liner/backspring. The blades have a nice middle of the road pull and good snap. I think I would have preferred a slightly more finished scale, but I don't think that's what Boker was going for... I seems like they wanted it nice and rough with some texture. I have been treating the handle with Tsubaki (camellia) oil when I oil the blade which has improved how it feels in my hand even more (it was already great).

All in all, I love the knife and wouldn't hesitate to repurchase it if I was to lose it.

I also have my eye on the Boker Whiskey Barrel Barlow! That thing sure looks nice!

I have 4 Tree Brand knives and I think they’re excellent near GEC level fit and finish with nice snappy springs no play pinned shields and good price point. Best brand under $100 I think with most models $50-80

I got one a few weeks ago from a reseller in Tennessee. This one is fantastic fit finish and quality.

theyre not terrible, id say better than case but then any company that makes single blade trappers usually can gain my attention
I rate German made Bokers ahead of Case and below GEC. The only Bokers I trust for quality, really.
Of course my most recent Case is a peanut with 3 different grinds on the blades, not counting the waviness.

Does Boker pin the shields on now?

I bought a Boker scout knife last year, and I'm very impressed. This is an absurdly complicated pattern to produce, with 4 tools on the front and 2 tools on the backside. It's almost impossible to get excellent walk and talk on all tools, with acceptable levels of blade play. Boker did an admirable job. The punch on the rear has a tick of play, and there are some imperfections on the amboina mark side cover. But other than those nitpicks, it's a very good knife. In contrast, Camillus attempted this pattern many years ago for Remington, and did not achieve nearly the quality that Boker has managed to produce. I'd put Boker quality just a bit above Case, but definitely not as high as GEC. Huge props go to Boker for producing this anniversary edition knife with a 440C main blade.

On the Solingen made knives I know for sure they do. Don’t know about the others
That's what I thought too and you are probably right but these two knives have me wondering.

These are both Solingen made Boker Boy Scout knives. The knives are identical except for the color of the handles. On the blue one I can clearly see that the shield is pinned. The red one, not so much.

What do you folks think? Is that a ghost of a shield pin hole inside the liner on the red knife?
