"Boom Boom " Geoffrion hockey great of the 50s and 60s for Montreal has died at the age of 75 ! Credited with inventing the slap shot he was on the team in the days when Montreal won 5 straight Stanley Cups !! We used to go to the Montreal/Ranger games in NY .Some very fine hockey !

I thought you meant Ray "Boom Boom" Mancini, Lightweight boxing champion from Youngstown, Ohio.

Last night they had a ceremony to retire his number , #5, but since he died the same day it was a fitting tribute to him. A number of the old timers from the team were there.Very nice even though it was in french. It brought back many fine memories of the great games I had seen.

I do not watch hockey and never have. I have ,however, heard of Boom Boom Geoffrion. Like Gretzky and a few others their fame trancended the sport they played.

That was a wonderful tribute.
To see his peers there was really something.
Heck of a funeral service.

Old time hockey. Unfortunately, his career was over a little before my time so never saw him live. One of the all-time greats that made a significant impact on the game.
