Break free CLP for knives..?

I don't take the chance and the oil attracts too much pocket lint. I give my knives a bath when they need it in warm soapy water and scrub with an old toothbrush. Let them air dry good and then lube where needed with a little Hoppes gun oil. Never been a problem.

Yep. Ballistol is made to clean and lube guns. It will remove the brass and copper fouling. I emailed the company to ask if I should avoid using it on PB knife washers and they said "yes, it may dissolve them over time".

This is why I wondered about BF CLP.

Whoa. I just assumed that it was pretty neutral, since it says it's food safe on the can.

Breakfree CLP is great stuff. I have used it on guns, knives, bikes, anything metal for years without any issues. It is widely available and reasonably priced. it is a synthetic so never gums up like regular oils do over time. It is a good cleaner. I was amazed at how much crud it took off of an old 1857 Zulu shotgun I had sitting around down in my basement.

Check out his Corrosion Test of various products.

I recently ran out of a lube I bought at the Spyderco store, I wish I could remember what it was called as I did empty it into a needle bottle from Hobby lobby. After running out I did in fact buy CLP from cabelas. I really think it is great so far, o have cleaned and applyed it to several of my bearing run knives after cleaning off the lube from Spyderco and it literally made the knife so much smoother with no drag, grind or any thing preventing the pivot to function less smooth. I am so far in love with CLP and at only $7.99 it is a great lubricant.
