Breaking knives (question for Sal or Vince)

I know you guys like to break knives, and that you have special machinery dedicated to that noble purpose. Do you routinely test knives in the manner described in this thread: http://www.bladeforums.com/ubb/Forum54/HTML/000301.html

Safety issues aside, just how hard can we push down on our favorite folders in "normal" cutting, without breaking them?

Thanks.

Stop when you get to bone.

David - only occaissionaly. We've learned how to keep them from breaking that way. Used to be a big problem years ago. I can't vouch for other companies, but I don't think you have to worry about that with a Spyderco.

I don't know, Sal. I'm a lot stronger than I look. I can pinch ball bearings and squish them like Junior Mints.

(Not really.

Thanks for the reply.

Nakano - It breaks our hearts to break perfectly good knives, especially prototypes. But, they all must go through it. Even the Jr Mints.

The only reward is progress.
