Broke my Fiskars hand axe today

Actually, I was wondering about this....is that what they are like under the polymer? Is there an eye in the head? Would it be possible to turn the head into a new hatchet/hawk project?

Here's a broken Fiskars.

This guy was pounding wedges with his. I've heard of another guy who broke one that he was using as a throwing axe. It doesn't look like there are screws or fasteners of any sort.

I bet you could make a new handle for that head, then! Just saw out a kerf and bind it up stone/bronze age style. :D

Split a young sapling in early spring, insert the fiskars head, allow tree to grow around it. Cut out when tight and wrap with rawhide and/or sinew. It will be post industrial neolithic. :)

Wasn't expecting it as I did not get an email notification when it shipped as they said I would, but I got my replacement hatchet from Fiskars this afternoon.

I was glad to see they stuck by their warranty. I noticed several posts on this thread that they shouldn't replace it because I was using it in a manner it was not designed for, but I disagree.

I was splitting kindling 2" thick it less, and as far as I am concerned that is a hatchet's job, fire preparation and light camp chores.

I told Fiskars exactly what I was doing, how old it was, and sent them pictures of the broken axe and they chose to replace it.

And I really appreciate it, and will take that into consideration for future purchases.

Given how many get used, and how few show up broken, I suspect they are plenty tough. personally I would take a fiskars over a wooden handle where I live since the humidity changes here would kill a wood handle pretty quick. Horses for courses.
