Hi folks,

I’m a big fan of previous iterations of the 106, and have been waiting on the new Compadre version to come back in-stock at Buck.

Daily checks have yielded nothing in the last third of a year.

Today? *poof*. No longer listed on the website.

Is this 106 a dodo? Passenger pigeon? Tasmanian Tiger? Say it ain’t so!

Edit 28 Dec: Back in-stock ! Go ! Go ! Go !

Edit 30 Dec: Sold out, removed from 2022 catalog. :(

I have no idea. But I know Buck has removed knives from their website in the past, that weren't discontinued. Because they knew it was going to be a while before they had them back in stock. The real answer will be if it is in the 2022 catalog.

Just a question….curious
these axes got such bad reviews on the internet…and youtube product reviews…
so curious what is the attraction?

Yea thiese were pretty reputable guys who review on internet, they both like the compadre knife a lot, which I have and they even liked the froe long blade, said it was butt but very useful, , but both stated the AXE was a big disapointment and did not fuction well for camp use and chopping and stuff..tha Froe was much better. One guy said the axe if configure a little different would make a great tomahawk but not a working axe tool.

It's a good light weight hatchet for back packing.
I use them for making kindling at a campfire. I have a large axe, and even a chainsaw too so..... But I don't stray far from the truck or RV nowadays.

Is it the best out there? That's subjective.
I like the ergonomics and light weight.
It packs well.
My buddy keeps one in the deer blind in the U.P. I've seen him use it on deer pelvis.

I couldn't care less about internet reviewers/ YouTube video makers. I'd venture most don't even have a job.

in fairness and joking aside to the question asked.......as its an honest and good question....

I'm gonna speculate here as I dont know who it is and I didn't see it. im guessing these reviewers were using the 106 like one would use a boys sized axe or maybe a for wood workin leaning designed hatchet for. maybe thicker wood and harder type tasks? I myself wouldn't pick my 106 for those kinda tasks. I dont see it doing better than other hatchets i have with more weight and bigger thicker tapered heads for better splitting and removing more wood per strike. sure I could use the 106 for harder tasks and it could do them, but wouldn't be the best or even good at it. depending on what the task was.

I think if they used it for hunting and cleaning, or maybe even lighter camping type tasks.....theyd have a better review of it.

I’m sure the 106 will work great in lighter duty wood chopping / splitting and game processing. The only thing I didn’t like is the blunt hammer end is only 1/4 wide and I like to use my hatchet for a hammer sometimes. trying to drive a nail would be a challenge for sure if not totally frustrating.

here is link to one review….he tests and like the knife and froe but not the axe at all,
hey I am probably going to buy one anyway..but I thought this was a decent product review

yep as I figured and said. I watched him chopping a thicker dead limb. wrong tool for that task to get the expected results reviewer was expecting.
