I have a Buck 188 that has black handle and black blade. Stamped Buck, 188+, U.S.A., and nothing on the other side. The sheath, pouch, and straps are black. The sheath is stamped BIANCHI, INTERNATIONAL, UNIVERSAL MILITARY HOLSTER, U.S.A. FOREIFN PATENDS PENDING. The sheath has the phrobis stamp just below the sharpening stone. The sheath plastic female latch has; ITW NEXUS, WOOD DALE, IL., 60191. I can't seem to find any information on the internet about this 188 with both black handle and black blade. Can you please enlighten me about this knife. I would be interested in the history, value, and any and all the information you could provide. Thanks so very much, Jim

Welcome to the forum.

I don't think that website is active anymore. I tried a few months ago and again just now and it does not open.
I do believe Rich Neyman is currently writing a book about the knife.
I know he pops in here once in awhile.

Welcome to the new home of the M9 bayonet. On this website you will find the most complete history and description of the M9 Bayonet that you will find anywhere. The history starts with the development of the M9 Bayonet by Qual-A-Tec which later formed the company Phrobis III. Phrobis III was formed to interacted with Buck to make the first M9 Bayonets. Buck manufactured M9 bayonets with both Phrobis M9 Bayonet and Buck M9 Bayonet markings for several years. Over time, Buck managed to get control over the supply of the M9 Bayonet in the United States until Lan-Cay underbid Buck in a key military contract. Lastly, in the 1990s the US Military offered for bid a new contract that was split between Lan-Cay and Ontario Knife Works. These facts and many more are included throughout this website. The information here has been compiled from numerous "experts" and noted collectors who have aided with the development of the content of this website. This is being shared here as the M9 Bayonet is one of the post popular AR15 parts and accessories sold and available as a military surplus item but yet bayonet identification and M9 bayonet history is often confused. We hope that this website is already the ultimate M9 Bayonet resource on the web and that the tools are here to allow everybody to share their photos, questions, and knowledge. "

I too have a couple in all black and have not been able in the past to find information on them.

I am patiently waiting for Rich's book.

Off topic: I am opening Quarterbores sites, listed in this thread, with a modern robust Dell Desktop PC, with massive memory, running windows 8 (ugh) and with a cheapie, minimal memory, Apple mini-ipad both connecting to the internet out here in a rural area via a copper wire and DSL modem. I don't know why anyone would have access issues but I guess that Quarterbore has his work cut out for him keeping a strong internet site.

This should be the version you have. Check your details carefully as I see a lot of M9s that have cobbled together mix match configs.

Gedlicks would you be interested in selling any of your black 188's? Just curious, I have been looking for a good one with no luck. Robert

I don't know if you had notice but the last post to this thread is a 1 1/2 yrs old? I don't think that is allowed. Plus you're not a Gold member, and you're looking to buy something? That's not allowed. Maybe you should check the FAQs at the top of page before you get into trouble.

Great (deleted by moderator) patrol? If this was sent when I joined it would of saved me a lot of wasted time. Did not mean to step on toes and make anyone cry. One person explaining it would of been kind, another applauding makes me wonder. No offense was taken and it was appreciated until groggy has to give applause. Not a great welcome. Simple question, simple answer. Peanut gallery sounds like kids. [emoji106][emoji6]

Most of this site sounds like rip offs and crooks. Does an injustice to the honest people. I ask a question if you have you any you want to sell and people cry. You have people crying about smoke or non smoke. You have people getting ripped off. I know know if I should wait to be banned or get out of here. Thanks for the kindness.
