Thanks to Dan Gray I have a nice set of Sambar scales for yet another Scandi grind bushcraft knife. I have never worked antler before and these Sambar scales have a high bark. I guess that is typical for Sambar. I can not in my imagination see where I can palm swell it without ruining its appearence. Am I correct in my presumption? Do you guys palm swell high bark like Sambar or leave it straight?

Thanks.

Roger that is called, high figured stag,, high figured to very smooth could be had but both are getting scarce..
tapering the ends has a nice effect but each to their own on this look.
and that stuff don't have much pith so thin as you feel comfortable for a swell

what you got is called straight,
and about all I have anymore,
choices always were,, straight, humped and saddle backed if I remember right?

if you could have gone shorter I think I have one or two humped but not so good in figure.

In my opinion Good Stag is a precious item and to modify its pattern is to destroy something that can not be replaced. I feel that it should be used with no more modification than necessary. Just my .02 cents. Gib

you don't have to grind much to get a good look and feel
I know what you'er saying Gib I agree,,
