Hoping someone has some idea about where this dagger is from. I've been trying to identify, using multiple search engines and following links, so far without results.

The dagger is about 11 and one-half inches long. The eagle surrounding the hilt has red gemstones as eyes. The eagle itself, and the fittings on the sheath, appear to be brass or bronze. The part of the hilt that the eagle is on top of appears to be bone, stone or shell, and has red streaks through it. The eagle is attached to the rest of the hilt by gold-colored wires in groups of three.
My mother-in-law gave me the dagger (along with a SA dagger with hilt!). She says that one of her brothers gave it to her after coming home from WW II, but is unable to remember which brother. Her brothers served all over: the South Pacific, Africa/The Middle East, Italy, France and Germany. After a lot of searches, the only thing I've found that even resembles the dagger is at the following link:

My dagger can be seen at the following link:

One your browser has taken you to my home page, click on the link "ID Unknown Knife".

Hope someone out there can give me an idea about what I've got. I don't necessarily want to sell it at this time, but I would like to get an idea of the dagger's value.

You can also email me direct at :

Thanks in advance! Gary

You may want to post this in Bernard Levine's forum, under the 'General' category. Bernard is the man when it comes to identifying knives.
