Canteen or water bottle?

I'd like to see a picture of your carrier.

Ok, here you go:

As you can see, it's not the neatest thing but it works wonders, I've taken it out many times with zero issues. It has an adjustable strap and everything!
It takes roughly 30 ft of paracord to make it, which should come in handy if you're ever in need of cordage.

Hope you like it.

I get my water bottles free from supermarkets. They come with Coke, Sprite, Fanta, etc, in them. :-)

I don't like the hard bottles (Nalgene and the like) because when they are half full they slosh, and I hate walking with "slosh slosh slosh slosh" coming from behind me. Soft-drink bottles can be crushed when half full. They can also be crushed under the compression straps on the side of my weekend pack (it doesn't have mesh pockets on the side).

When a soft-drink bottle gets a bit grimy and the little black spots start growing on the bottom, I throw it in a recycling bin and buy another bottle of Coke.

However, the narrow neck makes them a pain to fill from a waterfall. The wide-mouth bottles (either Platypus bladders or Nalgene jars) fill a lot quicker.

Gatorade and Powerade bottles have a wider mouth, so they might be better for filling at waterfalls. Plus they just like soft drink bottles, except maybe made of a bit more rigid plastic, but not like nalgene.

the human gear cap is awesome and makes my use of Nalgenes and Camelbacks tolerable.....it fits both, BTW.

that said...any time I'm out, or what's in my EDC pack...its the canteen set up - Rob does a great job at canteenshop.com and you can actually get a nalgene kidney canteen too. I got a clear one from Rob. Very nice.

the stove/cup/canteen set up is just too hard to beat IMO and I've carried it ever since uncle sam said to in the 80's. In a pack - move it to being mounted on a pack - move it to a belt - fashion a lanyard....just too good for me to let go of.

All I ever put in mine is water, so cleaning isn't an issue.

24 ounce single wall small mouth klean Kanteen FTW. I make tea in mine while camping and I have the bike cage for it so its rides on my down tube while riding.
