Couple of weeks ago there was a thread discussing the best way to finish canvas micarta. Now I can't find it!! Can anyone point me in the right direction?
Mike I'm sure the other Mike got you pointed to the right thread. I haven't read the other thread but here's what I do.
For canvas Micarta I sand using my 2x72 grinder to 400 grit and then hit it with a blue scotch brite belt (see Jeff Diotte for belt). This gives a great overall finish for canvas and linen micarta. For Paper Micarta I generally polish on a buffer.
I also use the scotch brite belt for finishing G10 and get a great finish on it as well.
If you are not going to bead blast it and want a fine finish it will take more than usual amount of fine sanding before buffing. The canvas component tends to pick up a lot of dirt from the buffing compound if the fine sanding is not very well done.
