carry a small cold chisel for splitting, prying jobs

I don't know why I keep clicking the view post link. Nothing good ever happens.

To answer the question that was unstated, why do I have skills rather than gear?

1. I don't typically hike alone, and even if I do, the person I help might not be me, and may not have the kit I need to help them
2. Gear can break, get wet, or otherwise be not suited to the task at hand, therefore skills step in to fill the void
3. Specialized gear depends on things going to plan.
4. Reality never goes to plan
5. I'd rather have 5 options based on skills and experience than 10 based on a bag of gear. yes, I already carry the bag of gear, but its lighter because of the skills and experience.

In my five and a half decades I've never once needed a cold chisel in the field excepting for geology work and then I can recall one instance. No way in hell I'm packing that weight around. You ain't been afield much, have you, alewn?

The more you know, the less you carry.
Exactly!

Why even go to the woods? Save time and energy and just stay at home.

Or apparently from other threads pick the lock and break into someone else's house. (actually dont it is illegal)

because I like using my knife, for any and all jobs that I'm able to make it do.
I don't care if there is a right tool for the job, if I'm able to do it with my knife.....I'm doing it with my knife.
Why????
Because I like using knives.

I am going to address this is the most logical and civil manner I can.

It is easy to look at what other do and frown at all the effort they put into it. I practice and play with bushcraft and survival skills all the time. I enjoy it. I learn something every time I try doing something the "hard way". I light fires with flint and steel, ferro rod, bow drill etc. I build shelter, I cook over fires I made, etc. So many easier more modern ways of doing things. But I am not doing this to impress someone. I am doing this things to learn and grow.

If you put me in a situation with what I have on me I bet I can adapt better then folks who never practiced these skills. Because I will have knowledge and experience of doing more with less. I dont always carry a pry bar or a shelter or an axe. But I have learned that bad things can happen to folks just out for a stroll in the woods. So my mental toolbox is stocked and ready. I can start a fire with minimal gear. I can retain body heat by using the natural surroundings.

It's all about skills and knowledge.
