Case Copperlock

Hey Roland, thats some good lookin' bone. I carry a full size copperlock with CV steel every day. I prefer lockbacks for users and the Copperlock is large enough for most tasks and all but disappears in the pocket. I hate the Tru-sharp stuff but the CV blades make very good users.

I carried the full sized Copperlock for a while and loved it. However, the Mini copperlock is a knife that is to be recond.(did I spell that right?)Anyways.\' the mini is a very pocketable knife that despite the slim profile is as stout as they come.

Now... THAT's what I'm after. I didn't realize that any Copperlocks were made with CV steel.
Gonna have to keep my eyes peeled.

I wasn't aware of it either. Darrin, what vintage is your CV Copperlock?

Edit: I'm seeing at least one link on the web for a '98 vintage in yellow delrin (31549L CV), AND a 2002 vintage in yellow, with a Wharncliffe blade (31549W L CV). Never knew these were out there...

Mine is a 31549 L CV with longtail case xx with 5 x's & 1 dot. It is a wharny but I seem to recall seeing a few clip blade CV Copperlocks but I can't remember where. I could be mistaken though. I got mine from Shepherd of the hills cutlery in 06 or 07. They had 5 of them on a close-out for $22 each and I bought all 5 of them. I'm carrying one, lost one, and gave 2 away. I'm keeping the last one till the one I'm carrying wears out or I lose it.

Wow. Great grab on those.

Sounds like yours is marked as a 2004 model (Long-tail 'C' and 5 X's + 1 dot). The web hit I referenced earlier, for the 31549L CV (w/clip blade) was on a certain 'auction site' (;)). Looks like that may be one place to look, anyway.

Thanks Darrin. :)

David, after scraping a bit of pocket crud off the tang I found the W i missed earlier. I would love to see Case make some large Copperheads with clip CV blades and nice bone or G-10. I don't make folders yet but when I start that is one pattern I'm gonna try. With good steel and a tough handle material it would be just about perfect for EDC in my opinion.

Obviously an old post but just saw these. Thought I'd post some of my copperlocks . . . these are all first year production, except for the Selects. Also have the Evolution set. A few prototypes, a few abalone, a few Pearl Premieres, a couple employee knives . . . all 1997 (large) and 1998 (mini).

I've got this Rattlesnake Bone version, mint, need to look it out. Never carried it as I found them a bit large & skinny, the Mini version I prefer but now after seeing that interesting collection, who knows ;)

Old thread that pre-dates my joining here. Might as well add some old pics to it:

Here's my full-sized Copperlock, in Green (or maybe Peackock?) Appaloosa smooth bone:

And my Mini-Copperlock pictured with it's sibling Mini-Trapper of the same set. Can't remember what this was called - Second Cut Antique Bone maybe:

Nice collection!
Thank you. I’ve been working on it for a while. I have most of the first year production copperlocks though I am missing a few. I love this pattern and I started collecting them when I bought a large collection from a lady whose dad had passed in 2004 or so. He had about 20 of these, all of them first year production. They weren’t worth much at the time, so I started looking for them and buying them up. Their prices were static for a number of years but lately I’ve seen a significant increase which is nice.

S stupidhead that is the finest mop copperlock I have seen. Almost looks like gold lip clouds on the mark side. Mine wasn't marked proto, marked Select on the blade and had serious nice MOP. My neurosurgeon didn't carry a pocketknife before I gave him that one. Someday he might have to do a tracheotomy, like at a restaurant or car accident. He has the skills to do it in an emergency but tough to do without a sharp instrument. A man with those skills should carry a knife. Better in his pocket than my safe.
