Case vs. Sak

Which is the better knives to collect case or victorinox?
Looking for quality and value.
I plan on carrying some. Who has the better steel?

I'd rather carry a SAK than a Case, because SAK's are very consistently well- made, unique in what you get (for me, toothpick + tweezers + corkscrew is reason enough, and I like the combo cap lifter bottle opener dealie, also their saws are great), and Case quality is spotty. Blade steels are equivalent IMO.

I don't think I'd collect either brand, but that's just me (I'm more of a spastic accumulator anyhow). Both brands have the potential to increase in value, but only for certain knives- figuring out which is which is the whole tricky bit.

Maybe buy a few that catch your eye from both, and see what you think?

I feel that the Victorinox SAK should be the quality standard most knife manufacturers strive to attain. I have been purchasing them for at least 30 years and have yet to find one with a QC issue. Everything about them is well done and consistent. They are one of the best knife values around IMO.

I have yet to own a Case that didn't have an issue. They still haven't figured out how to put a point on a knife, which is mind boggling.
Case quality not what it used to be I see....

Both are collectible. As many have stated for EDC utility, the Victorinox is unmatched and their quality control is spot on. These 2 knives are very comparable in use and feel in the pocket. The reamer makes the SAK that much better. I've since added a similar SAK w a pair of scissors custom added to make an "Alox Electrician X" which is pretty great.

Swiss army knife
ALL THE WAY
I've ordered too many case knives
(Yes they're authentic)
With way too many issues
Last case I ordered was a stockman mini
$70
One blade was so misaligned that the other blade couldn't even be seated even remotely correctly
The third knife wobbled comically
CASE, never again
as for swiss army knives
Bought them, lost them, rebought them for years
Never an issue
My opinion, don't cry.
But I'm done with case

20221216_182509.jpgI very much prefer SAKs after I was let down by Case, whom I was ready to love, and found out this was a regular occurance. They look nice, but why can't they at least match Rough Ryder, at 3x the cost? I have no issue paying for American labor, when it works right. I will probably go with Buck if I need a USA multiblade slippie, until such time I deem needed to splurge on GEC.

The SAK is a more useful tool arguably, being a fantastic companion to other knives. At home, that blue G10 Executive is always in my pocket, and its a favorite out, too. I prefer that obscure and underrated 74mm size, and 91s.

The Finnish exclusives that I prefer, in white with the Moomin and nature sketch designs are some of the easiest to not scratch as the majority of it is white. I modified the white Moominpapa 51mm up left to be an Emergency Classic, no SD, because it has a nail cleaner instead of the driver - it was originally an Escort, the single layer 54mm with just knife and SD/file inside. I made my fiance's white Little My Escort into a Princess, a rare model, like an SD classic but with nail tip.

Also shown are rare 54s like the Pharmacy Knife, never sold on the open market, perhaps made as part of a large order. Replaced the Cardizem logo with a Lortab logo.

Interesting 100mm blade shapes like the dual edged scimitar with wharncliffe, or dual edge wharncliffe (felco) with cool colors. Got the Terotuf and Micarta up there too. Have various red cellador but did not include, those are classics, however. How I have no Alox yet is beyond me.

If your goal is collecting, then, as everyone said, Case will keep you busy.

If you want a quality tool that you can depend on, for a ridiculously low price, Victorinox, 24/7/52/365/525,600.

Maybe there is room for both in your stable.

I purchased a Case Knife, gave it away. I've purchased SAKs all my life, will continue to do so until I croak.

Therein lies the problem
In my state, we have something called "half priced book store"
Basically, decent books, but half the price of a new copy
In the store they have a category for collectors
Books upon books
Of case knife collecton value and identification
So if you want to buy a case knife for your, collection, this is for you
Be that as it may be
These collectors buy Case primarily for limited blade shape and handle art.
Not if they are adequate performers

I love Half Priced Books. Personally, I'm not much of a collector. I will only buy something that I have a use for.

"Notes from Underground". SUCH A GOOD BOOK!
Absolutely! Probably my favorite, and definitely the one that grabbed me the most from the first few pages. How can you not love a book that opens with "I am a sick man. I am a wicked man. An unattractive man. I think my liver hurts"

Personally, never SAK, ever. Garbage steel, and a worthless blade means a worthless tool in my book. I tried one of those ASK things and they use awesome steel with significantly higher quality tools, but slipjoints are also trash for a real tool and ASK knows that so they stiffened the retainers/tensioner on them and made 'em impossible to deploy without bending my fingernails backward. So yeah, never slipjoints ever with one exception... SpyderSAKs. A Spyderco blade in an SAK gives a garbage tool a decent blade, minus the small one. Even though it's still slipjoint it can be utilized for small and simple daily tasks like opening boxes and cutting rope. A Case knife is better than a SAK, but it's still subpar.

My recommendation is a real multitool, a Leatherman Skeletool CX with 154cm blade. That's a real blade on a real multitool. Far larger than most SAKs, double that of most Case knives too, but a significantly superior tool.

... all in my not whatsoever humble opinion.

Incentive to collect anything doesn’t have to involve current or future monetary value. I would go so far as to say a high percentage of collectors have little or no interest in the monetary value of their collection.

So much of this is objectively incorrect, it's actually kind of impressive.
