Cheap and light Hammock????

www.hennessyhammock.com

I've posted this link before. This hammock is a bit more$$, but it sets up in a flash is water proof (with the fly) Has incorporated bug screen. It's asymetrical so you lay a lot flatter than a standard hammock. I stayed dry in a MAJOR thunderstorm one night. I actually can sleep on my stomach in it. LOVE IT!! Don't use a tent anymore unless Mrs. Slayer and Slayer Jr. come with.

I'm a pretty big guy is there a hammock that'll hold me? 250ish I don't want to fall on my ass in the middle of the night cause my hammock broke.

I can't remember the particular seller on ebay, but I remember seeing one that had all kinds of crazy pics including a large family. . . 9 or 10 people. . . all piled into one hammock, and one of a Volkswagon Beetle upside down in one. I'm not sure how well those pack down though. My Byer Moskito says it will hold a maximum load of 250 lbs. and it packs into a nice compact attached pouch.

What is the diffrence between the regular hammock and the Brazilian hammock???

The Brazilian hammock is a solid piece of fabric rather than a woven net style, and it's intended to be laid in diagonally. . . like the pic at the bottom of this page: http://www.byerofmaine.com/amazonas.htm It eliminates most of the curvature under your back and makes it much more comfortable.

I've been wanting to try one of those, but my Moskito just won't wear out, and until it does I don't have an excuse to get a new hammock, especially not at those prices. . . The scout isn't too pricey though, and I think I'd be okay with the shorter length.

I have a small "Castaway" hammock I found on Ebay for $13.00. This type of hammock can be found pretty cheap online. It's very light, and scrunches up in it's attached bag to a very small size. Add some No-See-Um or chiffon material and some tarp clips, and it would keep you bug free.

Also have a Tom Claytor Jungle Hammock. $130.00, but worth it. Has a much better fly than the Hennessy, zip-up netting, double bottom for sleeping pads, and can be set up on the ground if needed. http://www.mosquitohammock.com/junglehammock.html He also sells some cheaper models, check the main page. (Check out the Bat Hammock :D )

The hammock mentioned above is rated at 350.

The Clark NA is rated at about 285 http://www.junglehammock.com/deluxefeatures.php . Very nice, but very expensive.

ENO hammocks are rated at 400 http://www.eaglesnestoutfittersinc.com/ . These are very nice, but don't have an integrated net, and the available fly sucks.

Hennesy has different models rated at different weights. Lots of people like them. I personally find them limiting compared to the other models listed. Mainly because of a non-openable net.

Right there with you. Along with the webbing, I use one of those "thousand pound rated" hammocks you can get from a good army-navy store. I live almost on top of Vt Army Navy's physical store, which is where I got mine. It was made for two, so it has plenty of room, and while I honestly don't think it's got a ton of hold in it, I've had three guys using one as a bench in camp before and it held. I just wish they had one without the spreader bars.

Or you can be brave and try one of BQ's IMPS Nets. Those supposedly go up to 500 pounds, but I've never tried one. :)

have used a Byer's Traveler hammock (low $) for some years, after having been introduced to hammock use in the military for admin use. got it from Brigade Quartermasters (don't know if they still have 'em.) it's a solid nylon OD hammock that has supported me (200+) without problems. has own li'l stuff sack. don't like attached bug nets - make me feel trapped a li'l. a poncho and 4-5 long bungees (cord works, bungees work better in wind & rain), some cord for a roof pitch line, 4 aluminum tent stakes (or improvised), & 2 trees: 5 minute camp i've used in storms and on inclines without bugs. Campmor has 'em, as well as what looks similar by another company that is supposed to hold more.

I have one and love it. It has replaced my tent on 3 season camping trips. I have the Expedition Asym with the snake skins.

If money isn't an object I'd go with a Hennessy hammock. Whatever model suits you. I'm an ultralight freak so I have the Ultralight backpacker Asym. Light, everything is integrated, easy to set up, and made well. My motto for gear has always been "Cheap gear isn't good, good gear isn't cheap." Same goes for knives too. For what I do this is an awesome shelter for 3 season backpacking.

I went to wal-mart and headed for the fabric section. They had some heavy duty rip-stop nylon for $1/yd. get some of that ( at least 4yds.) and get some good rope. I got my rope in the sporting goods section. 50', then follow the instuctables vid. The walyworld rope is ok, but stretches abit too much. think the whole thing was around $15. no bug net tho.

Wal-Mart has a hammock in the camiping section for around $10, they also have a mosquito net but it only covers your face.
