Cold Steel Kukri Machete Review

Nice review, except it caused me to go and order two of these. At only $15.99 a piece, I figure I'll use one, and put one away in case they become unavailable, or go up in price. I hope to put it to as good of use as you have.:)

They are pretty great. Sheath is a bit lacking but for the price I don't care. I think If I had to settle on ONE edged tool to carry in anything short of a desert I'd have to pick this one.

Mine after taking a real bite:

I cut the rear flared knob with a knife and polished it with sandpaper and it's very comfortable. If you need thickness and grip on the handle bicycle inner tube works wonders.

I received my two Cold Steel Kukri today, and couldn't be more satisfied. For the money they appear to be nicely made. As mentioned the edge leaves a bit to be desired. One of mine has a couple of tiny chips on the edge which will go away once sharpened a little. The other is fine. Both could stand some sharpening. They sheaths are much to talk about, but appear functional (don't know how long they'll last). The handles have a nice lanyard hole to which I added a loop of 550 paracord. Otherwise, I'll use them as is. Overall these knives appear to be decent machetes. I plan to put mine to good use clearing a site for a summer archaeological field school. I wouldn't hesitate to pick one up for $15.

Ah-hah! I see you tried to remove the sticker....

Cold Steel puts those damn things on to stay and I DESPISE them. I've noticed they're never shown in the catalogs...hmmmm...wonder why that is?

Are you now going to try the Rajah series folders?

Thanks for the review. I've wanted one of these for a while, so I picked one up at my local hardware store today for $20. Great price. It's going to take some use to get the feel right.

They aren't too hard to remove. I pealed most of it off then picked/scrubbed the rest off. I don't know why they're applied in the first place, rather stupid IMHO.

Yeah, I originally saw the sticker problem when I saw Noss try to take it off the blade that he 'destruction-tested.' Since then, I've heard a lot of people complain about it. Can you not just use alcohol to take the sticker & residue off like one would for any normal stubborn sticker label?

Oh yeah, fantastic review!!

Great review and excellent photos.
I recently bought one of these for $21 delivered, off of eBay.
I'm really impressed with the chopping ability and how quickly it felt good in my hand.
I cut down and burned a bunch of tag alders, several 3 to 4 inches in diameter.
This tool really chops!

Sharpening the factory edge on my belt sander quickly made it wickedly sharp.

The gentle touch of flame from a butane lighter will soften the rough ridges on the handle in key spots, making it more comfortable to the bare hand.

I've used small axes, hatchets, and machetes, for the same work.
For the $$, this is one nice tool.

The only complaint I ever had with mine was the handle.Being Canadian I just wrapped it in hockey tape. Now it's a great tool for long treks.

Thanks for the kind words everyone! I agree with the handle, I ended up smoothing mine out a bit.

I really like that torch comment Dnalsi, I'll have to try that. I've done it on Ontario machete before.

Great job on the review guys!!!! I've used a CS LTC for years that keeps reattaching itself to my belt no matter what I try! Lots of time with it from veg prep in the kitchen to multiday trips way off the beaten track..My LTC and a folder and a Leatherman and I would feel completely confident anywhere. Kudo's to yall.. Anrkst

I've had my CSKhuk machete for 3~4yrs now & it's been on several adventures wiht me & done alot of work around the house:thumbup: It's still going strong w/no problems. Like was said mine came from CS with a rough edge but with very little work it was shaving sharp !

Now I want a CS LTC KHUK :D

Have had mine for a long time...great review. Have you ever tried throwing yours? It may sound kind of funny, but mine throws almost as well as my tomahawks from cold steel.
