Cold Steel SRK Carbon V

You absolutely did NOT overpay! It is a knife of a specific vintage and steel composition and it performs beautifully. I am a huge fan of Carbon V and if I were in the market for another Carbon V SRK, I'd have jumped at the opportunity. Well done!

Thanks for the input 👍. Beautiful SRK. Is that blued or did you strip the coating off? Hard to tell with the lighting. Looks great

I did not like the coating so I stripped it. I bought it to be a user and soon after putting it into action I knew I'd like a patina, anyway. As for sheath, the Buck 119 fits perfectly.

Added: you can get the sheath cheap online and if you want a snugger fit on the collar tab, you can add another snap like I did.

That's a good price for one in new condition.

The Secure-ex sheaths probably won't fit if they are anything like the Recon Tantos.

The Carbon V Recon Tanto has a larger ricasso than the SK5 version so it won't fit the sheath for the SK5.

I did just try a Carbon V Recon in my SK5's Recon's sheath, and vice versa. The Carbon V was very mildly tighter in the SK5 Secure-Ex, but it fit fine.

Wow, good deal . I happen to have an extra Buck 119 sheath laying around coincidentally. It works with that plastic insert inside the leather?

Yep!

Edit: I just fetched my SRK and I realized I don't have the plastic insert in the 119 sheath. I can't remember whether it came without the insert or if I took it out. 😳 I can say, though, that it fits nicely.

Wow, that is wild. I just stuck my SK5 SRK in the Buck 119 sheath and it is perfect. So funny, the SRK and Buck 119 are sitting next to each other in a drawer. Would never have thought the sheaths were interchangeable. I’ll use the extra 119 sheath for the new SRK. Great tip!

I’ll try it with the insert and will take it out if I have to. So far, the SK5 version fits perfectly with the plastic so I’m hopeful

One of my goals is genuinely to use the SRK so hard that the handle wears out. Then I can rehandle it in stacked leather. 😆

The original sheath should look like my 1989 SRK below. I seem to remember that later ones had only one strap for the handle.

I’ve always liked the Cold Steel cordura sheaths. I have a San Mai Trailmaster with the cordura sheath and I really like the sheath. No dulling of the blade as a bonus. If I could find an original cordura SRK sheath, I’d buy it

Here is sheath on my Recon Tanto Carbon V . MY old SRK has same style, IIRC .

(Handle is wrapped for throwing , to aid in the release .)

I've been looking for an original sheath for years. I might have to make one.

Perfect timing, I was just about to pick an SRK up as part of a kit.

Can someone school me on why the current sheaths they come with get such a bad reception?
