I bought a used 2-3 yr-old Oleg Krymlin hunter from a reputable BF forumite that he bought from the maker who had it listed as M4 steel. It's performed well, but after a year of kitchen duty there is no trace of patina and I now have serious doubts that it is M4. I even left it sitting against sliced oranges on purpose and still no patina. Being a steel nerd, I asked Oleg and sent him a photo but even he couldn't confirm the steel type.
All of this is the backdrop for my question: Is there a chemical test or some other method that can identify a specific blade steel?
