Are you deep fat frying cutlets?

Who makes your spider and is it a 10 or 12"?

Hi kage. Yes I am deep frying back strap. The spider is a 12" it is very old
and the maker did not put there name on it. It could be 100 years old .I don't
know. I bought it in a junk store .

Bushman, I don't know who made it.All is has on it is 12" on the handle.A lot
of the were not marked.

yum deep fried back strap. its awesome

my wife however like to semi eat healthy lol. so my go to recipe is open fire or grill. put back straps in aluminum foil lightly coat with butter wrap in bacon and cut up onions mushrooms and green peppers and slowly cook.

damn i love deer meat lol. good looking little set up and great food sir

Good stuff. Nice to see that someone else likes to do things that are a bit primitive.

Frying outside also helps to keep the kitchen cleaner. We often cook outside, but we generally use gas nowadays.

I did go through a stage of cooking over a home-made outdoor woodburner. This one has to be continually fed with small twigs. It is made out of an old pressure cooker:

That's interesting. What does the inside look like? Looks like a good idea.

The burning chamber is a bit of pipe maybe four inches in diameter. It is a bit shorter than the height of the assembled pressure cooker. The pipe has holes drilled around the circumference to allow air to get to the fuel. There is a solid base welded into the pipe, and there are legs on this base to keep the hot pipe off the base of the pressure cooker (to keep the outer case cooler for safety reasons).

The rubber seal in the cooker lid was removed.

I wouldn't call this device an outstanding success, but it worked. It was a bit too smokey at times (not enough air probably), and it had to be stoked constantly. If Doc (Canada) sees this, he may post the pictures of his portable wood cooker that was the inspiration for my project.

Cool setup you got there coote.I like to cook out side .I also grill
some of the deer meat. But fried is always good.:D

hard for me to see but did you coat the meat before frying or is it just straight up deer meat? i have pan friend dear meat similar to country steak. with gravy and rice. mmm son

Thanks for posting the pics Doc. I really like that little woodburner.

Enjoying a fire is something I have special appreciation for nowadays. New houses in our urban area are not permitted to have woodburners installed.... and some time back it became illegal to use any existing open fireplaces. Also, no outdoor fires are permitted for a significant portion of the year. This has come about as a result of special 'clean air' rules.

So cooking the harvest from the hunt over real flames is a special thing to do. Good stuff Hawkeye5.

yes hung, It's the same thing. I beat the back strap with a plate to tinderize it.Then salt and black pepper, then put it in milk and them flour, then drop her inthe grease. My wife uses egg and milk then flour again, but i don't use as much breading.but it is good eather way.Yes we had milk gravy with it but she cooked it in the house.:D

I have a spider, but the handle is an oval rod. Very old. Was used to cook in fireplace. Had it for years. Used it once or twice. I have other cast iron cookware and dutch ovens. Nice grill by the way. You can lift up on the rods or slide them one way or another for cooking on. Goes into a bag and is fairly compact, right?

Hi , Loosearrow, It is just the way you describer it.You can move the rods around to add more wood,or to fit what ever pot or oven that you need to cook on. I like it better than hanging the pots .They are more stable and the lids are easy to take off and on.
You can't see it but when the spider is empty you can see how it was casted together in the middle. It is beeper than a normal skilett.
