carnifex knifeworks carnifex knifeworks I am glad surgery went well for Gus. Really hope it solves the issue.

M Mendoman sorry to hear the dogs were down. Glad to hear they are both on the mend.

Related TMI - many moons ago my dog, Bear, had a bad bout of crummy tummy resulting in the explosive condition you mentioned. Somehow he managed to explode while on the carpeted steps with no risers.
He was a large dog.
So I got to clean two sets of carpeted stairs, as well as the walls of the lower stairwell.
Good times.

Last June I woke early one morning to hit the head and discovered that Kobe had vomited and crapped all over the rugs in the living room.

He must've gotten up from his bed at the foot of our bed, and then walked in there and let loose. Only time he's had an accident in the house like that.
I couldn't believe how much stuff came out of him...it was mind blowing. That's when I learned about FortiFlora and probiotics.

I had a young Lab/Rot eat most of a rotting salmon carcass that he found while I was flyfishing. It had maggots which then found their way out both ends while he had the squirts and puked- was quite gross!

Taking him in for the arthroscopic surgery tomorrow morning. Hoping they can find the foreign object so the infection doesn't come back.
Could it be something like a foxtail? Those things are nasty and can work their way into just about anything. Good luck! I hope that you get it resolved tomorrow.

Edit: I’m a bit late. Hope all turns out well.

I was given a few boxes of FortiFlora when we recently took in Cooper. He seems to be doing well with it. We were also given a container of “NuVet Plus Canine” multi suppliment. He’s doing well with it also. Well, I say doing well, I have no proof that they are doing anything, because Cooper has had no digestive problems yet. Despite my best efforts, he eats a lot of grass but hasn’t shown any side effects, yet.

I was told that his past owner fed him a lot of human junk food. He was overweight, had pancreatitis, and digestive issues. Between the time the past owner was out of the picture and Cooper came to us, a great vet got him on a good diet and the mentioned supplements. He’s now at a good weight and does not have pancreatitis. As with many boxers, he has a heart condition. It doesn’t seem to be affecting him at this time. He will get set up for a Holter test (a vest worn for a few days to monitor the behavior of the heart), next week. Highly recommended for any dog, puppy on up, of a breed that can be prone to heart issues.

Dahlia had a foxtail in her throat that had to be cut out from the outside. Those things suck. I got a battery lawnmower with bagging just for around my house because of them

I used the FortiFlora for the past year and a half. I swear by it, it gave her perfect poops once again. Mixed it with warmed up Gerber Baby Chicken flavored food. Hand fed by a baby rubber teaspoon, multiple times over 2 hours till she finished it.

Then it was only human cooked food, skinless chicken thigh shredded, squashed pumpkin, shredded pork, squashed carrots, gluten free noodles, scrambled eggs, and occasionally a very small treat of flavored junk food.

If I wouldn't eat it, she didn’t get it. Simple as that. AND, it worked beautifully too!

It worked, but was constant work to hand feed her, as that was the ONLY way she would eat. BUT, it was certainly worth it.

There is a lot of good to say (i believe) about the FortiFlora.

It's possible. Could have been a rose bush thorn, a goat head....anything sharp and pointy. I'll know more in a few days.

I killed the rose bush and I'm in the process of burning everything in the backyard. Then I'll use herbicides in areas I want nothing to grow. In the spring, I'll lay fresh sod. That's about as good as I can do

I picked Gus up this morning.

Long story short he's doing well.

Foreign matter wasn't found. A lymph node was removed and is being biopsied and a deep bacterial culture will be done as well. Hopefully the foreign debris is gone altogether or contained in the lymph node. I'll know more next week.

Gus is doing really well. Unfortunately, his energy levels have not been diminished in any fashion. We'll have to keep him calm and sedated for at least 2 weeks, which isn't great because we already had to sedate him the prior 2 weeks before the surgery to prevent another flare up.

Poor guy was pretty upset with me for putting an inflatable donut around his neck. He hates it. Not sure if he'd prefer a plastic cone of shame, but we're going to try that tonight.

I'm really concerned about him overdoing it and ripping his sutures. Hoping that doesn't happen.🤞

That’s a tough one to keep them calm, almost impossible, I wish you luck with Gus on that one.

The inflatable I’d worry he would eventually find a way to scratch a hole in it, they are so creative with time on their hands.

The cone of shame even make me feel sorry for them, even if it’s for the best. The look in their eyes tells it all.

Here’s hoping that whatever Gus had in there, became impacted in the node, and was completely removed once and for all!

You are a committed owner and have my admiration brother 🙏🏻🍻

He's too good a dog to do anything else. He gives me his best every day, even more than most dogs. I've gotta do the same for him.

So glad he’s better.

Tried that blue donut thing once … it survived barely a minute.

Speaking of digestion issues, my monster has been eating a raw diet (80% muscle meat, 10% bone, 10% organ). I supplement omega oil and a vege powder and that has straightened him out! The price was in a similar ball park to his previous diet.

I had a similar experience having to keep my guy calm with sedatives for 2 weeks (he’s high energy, high drive) and I felt pretty guilty about it too! But they bounce back, and I think by the end of it, he was playing it up for extra cuddles anyways! Wishing your pup speedy recovery!

Picture for pup tax.

I'm so glad I spent money on a soft comfy dog bed so he could just lay on the floor.View attachment 2770756

Definitely glad he’s doing better!

I bet the sound inside the cone is insane for the poor doggies. I mean the amplification, with an animal that already has great hearing. I bet he can hear the ocean haha 🤣 . All these years I never thought about how loud it might be until seeing your picture.

You can definitely tell it has an effect. We've made sure to keep our 10 month old daughter away so she doesn't hurt his ears.
