CRK knives really are all the craze - just got my first CRK!

I really like my Pacific, and I'm quite enjoying my new Umnumzaan at the moment. I'm not terribly confident in the lock on the Umnumzaan, nor do I think that it's totally worth the cost, but the build quality is good and I knew what I was getting into when I bought it.

Congrats on finding a knife you really enjoy!

I found the Sebenza to be a similar experience. On paper, it doesn't seem very impressive since most other brands claim similar, if not better, materials and manufacturing. I gave CRK a wide berth at the beginning and tried lots of other knives because I've found things that get a lot of hype, especially on the internet, are more flash than dash so to speak. Definitely not the case with CRK! You can feel something more than the sum of the parts with a Sebenza and I believe it certainly deserves a lot of the praise it gets. It's one of the few knives where I can practically feel the thought and effort put into it's conception and implementation when I hold it and use it.

There is nothing, nothing, like the pleasurable clunk of a Sebbie lock bar snapping into place. You will grow to love it more every day. I knew I wanted a Sebenza the first time I ever saw one. I tried a lot of knives but eventually found that only a Sebenza sates the hunger for a Sebenza. I have had 8 CRKs and have 3 that have stayed with me. CRKs are not always my most carried knives, but by far my favorites.

I've owned hundreds of folders from $150 to $800, and I NEVER have found one that is the equal to a model 21 Sebenza... I used to collect both small and large CRK's, but only the large fits my larger hand. I loved the exotic wood inlays the best, and they were most attractive on the "small" model, but my "carry" has always been a large plain Sebbie, whether a Classic, model 21 plain, or Regular.
What, to you, mkaes the sebenza 21 better than even your 900 dollar knives?

i wish i bought a professional soldier in tanto when i had the chance. i believe its an expired line of CRK, but don't quote me on that, i have a (weird) policy against buying discontinued items, assuming i eventually run into one, so i guess I'm SOL

Which ones do you choose to carry more?

The one that probably gets the most carry time on work days is a WE Knife Co. ti framelock flipper. I like to carry it when I am likely to do bad things to my knife or subject it to crappy conditions, as it has a very good coating on the blade. My knife frequently gets wet at work so it's nice to carry something that has basically no surfaces exposed that can corrode. It is not as satisfying to use, but it is really well built, from very good materials. It flips like lightning and is a beast of a user. I bought it to see how good ti framelocks from across the pond were compared to the USA built knives like my CRKs. It's not a Sebenza, that's for sure, but it's a heck of knife.

I've had many CRKs over the years of which many I've also sold. I'm down to a large and small 21 Insingos, an old-school Mnandi and also just bought a large Inkosi from a fellow forum member here. The only other knife that sees as much use in my Benchmade Anthem. I don't baby any of my knives so even my long term large 21 Insingo is well used and looks better every day!

Love CRKs. I’ve got a decent collection of their stuff (20+ folders and a few fixed) but these two are my most carried and used folders.

I love my CRKs
I've been carrying a lot of different knives lately day to day.
Most knife people can relate to having fairly varied tastes and lots of knives for lots of tasks.
The thing I like about CRKs, particularly the Sebenza, is that it's a modern folding knife in the sense we know it as "knife people".
There are countless other examples, but the Sebenza is the most "concise". It's refined. No expense spared, no expense added.
Sometimes I get bored with CRK and carry something like a Microtech, ZT, or customs because they're more fun.
Sometimes I prefer something thinner and sharper than a CRK be it a Delica or cheap utility razor.
Other times I plainly want something tougher, like a fixed blade I can thrash on a bit.
Cycling back to the simplicity and precision of a CRK is always refreshing though.

For me, the Sebenza really is the "best all around" folding knife. I could go on, but I think it's easier to say
that using a Sebenza as "yard stick" to "measure" other knives with is a safe bet. Lots and lots of great knives out there to the point
that buying a CRK purely for performance gains would be dumb.
CRK just might be an acquired taste, but their quality is undeniable.

I feel like CRK is really like the Apple in the tech world.
If that were the case, CRK would all have some kind of ridiculous proprietary pivot head along with every other faster and the 31 would have a new one that's different than all the old models and if you wanted to take it apart you'd have to buy another CRK exclusive tool set for $199.

Once I got my first CRK it didn't take long at all for it to become my favorite. No knife I've ever had seemed to strike such a perfect balance of finesse and toughness. The first one was the hardest to spend the money on and use hard. The rest just followed. I've thought about trying an Inkosi but one of the things that draws me to the Sebenza is the pivot bushing design with everything that goes together the same way every time and with no need for thread lock.
