I decided to pull the trigger on one of these because I liked the Hissatsu 1. These are both designed by James Williams. The #1 Hissatsu has the auto LAWKS safety feature where as the #2 has just the LAWKS safety. What really caught my eye on the #2 was the G 10 scales and the low rider pocket clip. Both are super sharp out of the box. The #1 has a black teflon coated blade and #2 comes with a satin finish and both are AUS -8 steel with the outburst assisted opening feature. The major difference between the two are of course the size and the weight. Also I feel the outburst assisted feature is smoother on the #2. To get the best of both worlds my recommendation is that CRKT should come out with the #2 in the same size of the #1 with the auto LAWKS and keep with the G 10 scales with the low rider pocket clip and this would make for one bad booty folder. Using G 10 scales on the larger version would also cut down on the weight.

#1 Blade length (3.875) / #2 (3.125)
#1 OAL (8.75 in.) / #2 (7.125 in.)
#1 Closed (5.0 in.) / #2 (4.0 in.)
#1 Weight (5.8 ounces) / #2 (3.6 ounces)
#1 Black Zytel scales / #2 G10 scales (steel liners on both)

Thanks for the review

I didn't know they came up with G10 version. Looks great. Williams did a fantastic job with the design. I have the original Hissatsu folder and love the design, this Heiho looks like a great improvement.

I recently acquired one of these in a trade and have carried it a bit.

Overall I like as an edc option. I much prefer a flipper of some sort on assisted knives and the thumb plate is taking some getting use to, but works well enough. I was surprised at how smooth the handles are and at the lack of a guard of some sort for a knife that’s design to penetrate. Seems like a giant flaw to me, or am I missing something?

Anyways, it’s still a nice knife and has worked its way into my edc pool:thumbup:

Sh00ter1, I would think the lack of guard is due to the influence from traditional japanese knives. To me it's esthetically very easy on the eye, a flowing lines design. If there was a guard, it might separate the design from the heritage it inspires from. I know that doesn't really help if one has a doubt behind back of the head on the security of the gripping..But the lack of a guard to me isn't a beef, I'd like to see changes on some other details.

The thumb disc looks a bit bigger or better situated. To me the original Hissatsu folder thumb disc was slightly too far back. Maybe Im seeing wrong but it looks like some changes could have been done. Edit: or maybe not, the smaller size of the Heiho might deceive my eyes. I would have to hold the Heiho to be sure.

From all the shots I've seen of James Williams using the Hissatsu, they're all in reverse/ icepick grip with the thumb capped over the butt of the knife. I'm guessing the folders are meant to be used the same way.

I didn’t even consider the design influences, was looking at it from a purely utilitarian view. The knife is rather aesthetically pleasing.

This makes more sense. Does he hold edge forward or tip forward in this grip? The symmetry of the handle allows for use of either grip easily; I’m just curious how Mr. Williams intended for it to be used.

Thanks for the replies guys:thumbup:

Another technique for stabbing with a guardless knife is to palm it: tuck the butt of the knife against the heel of your hand. This allows a straight stab, rather than an overhand icepick motion.

Went to the knife shop today and played with the both the Hissatsu and the Heiho. I bought the Hissatsu, but hope to get the Heiho soon. It's pretty slick!

Both are a Japanese design. :p

As long as they are manufactured on Planet Earth, I'm happy.

Glad to see that. They are designed by James William, right?

I read somewhere that H2 ain't as good due to manufacturing country. Just need someone to reassure that before pulling the trigger to grab one.

They are designed by James Williams. The original poster seems to think the H2 is at least as good as the H1, with some improvements. I like it myself; I prefer LAWKS to Auto-LAWKS because I can ignore it. :)

Yeah...LAWK is enough. Auto LAWK is quote annoying in a way at times.....

Amazon is not shipping to Malaysia. Bay side is a bit pricey......hopefully someone will respond to my WTB in WTB section.

I haven't had any issues with mine. And while it doesn't see as much pocket time anymore (I'm getting into bigger knives for EDC), it still a great little knife IMO. The AO still fires hard even after LOTS of openings. Honestly, I didn't know the country of manufacturer of it until your first post asking about the difference.

Its a great knife and good looking to boot:thumbup:

+1:thumbup: James Williams goes over this exact technique in the CRKT vid on hissatsus at the 3 minute mark here

Thanks for the link to the vid:thumbup:

Thanks for the comment, shooter. I am awaiting seller to respond. Once the condition is good, I will pull the trigger.

What big EDC you are using? M21-14SFG or M16-14SFG..... I have both, yet to use them.... Just bought another one. M16-14D.....Can't wait foe the arrival.

M16-13SFG could be quite handy in a way.

The only other CRKT I own/EDC is my long discontinued M1 Lightfoot (one of my favorite all time blades). I also have 0350, Recon 1, Rajah III, Pacific Salt, etc., in my rotation. I just like the longer blades and larger handles these days.
