Crock pot slow cookin' ideas

There are a lot of meats that are reduced to mush by cooking in a slow cooker. It is a great way to cook a tougher meat along with a sauce. My easy favorite is brisket with BBQ sauce. Slightly brown the outside of a slab of brisket in a frying pan with some oil. Put the brisket in the crock pot and adjust the temperature to low. Put your favorite sauce on brisket and cook for 8 hours.

Even easier is to cook corn beef in a crockpot. Rinse off a slab of corn beef. Lightly brown the outside as above. Cook as above, but don't put on the BBQ sauce. You can throw some cabbage on top half way through. I don't cut it very small.

Just want to add that Reynolds Slow Cooker Liners are the best thing since sliced bread.

We make this easy recipe for bbq pulled pork every couple of months:

pork shoulder - a big 'un - you want lots of leftovers.
bbq dry rub (or a combo of salt, pepper, chili powder, cumin, red chili flakes, etc . . whatever you like)
1 large onion
1 bottle bbq sauce of choice

Rub pork shoulder with dry rub. Put in crock pot with chopped onion. Cover with water. Cook for at least 6 hours.

Remove pork and all solids to a large plate or tupperware container. Discard liquid (mostly fat anyways). Use two forks to shred the pork. Return pork and onions to crock pot. Add 2/3rd bottle of bbq sauce to taste. Simmer until dinner time.

Serve on hoagie rolls with coleslaw on the side. Yum!

1 chuck roast
1 jar of sliced pickels
Put both in pot and cook on low until falling apart. shred and serve on a bun. I top with cold slaw or hot peppers.

This is a fairly easy recipe that turns out an excellent beef stew in 8-10 hrs.

INGREDIENTS:
1 1/2 pounds lean stew beef cut in 1-inch cubes
1 packet Lipton beefy onion soup mix
1 1/2 teaspoons beef bouillon granules
4 medium potatoes, cubed
4 carrots, sliced
1/2 cup frozen yellow corn
1 cup water
1-2 stalk celery (sliced)
1 cup pearl onions
1 Hunt's Stewed Tomatoes 14.5oz, with juice
1 clove crushed garlic
salt and pepper to taste (I also like to add some Knorr seasoning for meat but any seasoned salt will work)

1 tablespoon cornstarch mixed with about 1/4 cup cold water (for thickening stew when done)

Put all ingredients (except corn starch and water) in a slow cooker on low heat for 8 to 10 hours. Taste and adjust seasonings. Add 1 tablespoon of cornstarch mixed with water. Turn heat to high and stir until thickened.
