CruForgeV was a steel developed by Crucible for forging bladesmiths. The steel didn't take off thanks to a combination of negative factors mostly separate from the performance of the steel itself. In this article I discuss its history, properties, and comparisons with other forging steels.

In my mind there’s not many knife steels but there are so many left to write about.

I know a few makers that use and like it, but as you point out, it’s not that popular. One knife that I have with this steel is actually a ladder damascus blade that @Russ Andrews made pairing the CruForgeV with L6 tool steel.
