curious case of Gooswing axe in Edward Brookes' catalog

I was trying to come with a explanation for the "weird shaped hoe" from last week and run into this catalog.
I am curious about item 550f. Maybe they knew something about broad axes we (collective memory) already forgot?

550H whistles my kettle a bit. It represents what I know as a typical archaic Nederlands timmermansbijl, carpenter's axe, but it's called what they call it. Definitely a curious case because this representation

of an axe with similar features also includes a time frame and guess what? it's right in the middle of the Eighty years War. Not until I saw this funny catalogue page did I even see a hint of a connection of these axes with the Spanish.
