I have an anodizer coming this month so I can start to offer them in colors next. :D

Cheers

 wait wait wait...did I miss pics in the thread, do you bigger ones in full Ti too?!

Yup I can do any of them in Ti. Here's a 93mm in Ti. Its alot of work to cut and finish that Ti by hand, but its a nice look.

Im currently doing some prototype alox scales for the bigger 111mmm size as well.

I just wanted to post some of my recent work. Hard anodized red scales and brass liners. I love polished brass it seems to go with just about everything and always classes up a SAK.

I finished some prototype alox scales for 91mm (the regular plastic scaled SAKs) and am doing a prototype build this weekend. I will post pics of that when finished. A lot of people have been asking for 91mm and 111mm alox scales and that is what I will be bringing for sale in 2014.

Cheers!

I use exclusively SAKs (48 years now!) and I love the whole concept of being able to take them apart for service. The reason I've never invested in an Alox is that there is no Spartan equivalent. Can you do an Alox with an awl and cork screw?

The 93mm alox frame I do most of my mods with cant have any backtools. This is another reason I want to make alox scales for the regular 91mm plastic SAKs that do have the backtools. I should be able to offer up that type of mod in a few months.

Cheers

I gather that there is an additional pivot involved, and removing a chunk off a conventional Alox scale is not your cup of tea. It's really neat though what you're doing (removable pins and changeable blades) and I look forward to one day commissioning a custom SAK from you.

I have seen it done by another modder, but it required a custom made spring as the one from the plastic scaled SAK does not work. So in theory it would work if I made a one off custom spring and the cutout for the backtool on the back scale, but at that point its cost to create would outweigh its value I think.

I have a set of alox protoype scales with the backtool cutout ready to test on a mod. If that works I can start CNCing some and hard anodizing those. That would really open up the potential mods and also drop the price since the number of donor SAKs needed to create a custom drops.

This has been a long time in the making. A prototype 91mm alox super tinker! :D

Hard anodized black scales. 1/8 inch pivots, hidden 4th pin.

This was a fit up test and it all works perfect. It will get rebuilt now with polished brass liners. These I cut manually so they were pretty labor intensive.

Many people have asked for alox scales as an upgrade to the standard plastic scales. I should be able to produce these in a variety of patterns and hard anodize colors by the summer, or hopefully sooner. Alox scales paired with brass or nickel silver liners will be a very nice upgrade to the standard SAK and remove plastic scales and cheap aluminum corrosion prone liners.
