why is it that the AUS6 on the delica2 seems to hold its edge better than the AUS 6 on my columbia rivers? my stiff kiss columbia river will need touching after cutting up one box yet the delica 2 is far superior. Is there some huge difference in heat treat to account for this? can you get better grades of aus 6?

It may have something to do with edge geometry, a subject Spyderco obviously understands very well.

I also believe it has to do with the fact Spyderco's AUS-6 is harder than CRKT's. Spyderco's AUS-6 is listed at Rockwell hardness 57-58, while I think CRKT's is at around 55-56.

Hi Metacarpels. We use AUS-6 (6A) made by Hitachi. Steel specs and heat treat are done very carefully.

You are getting a lesson in the value of a company "name".

It seems that the "eye" cannot see much in steel. All steel looks the same.

Serge found that our VG-10 seemed to perform better than another copmpany's VG-10 and our 440V did likewise.

Funny how that happens.
