In this video Guy says PVD is better than DLC.

  • Black DLC (titanium based rather than tungsten)
  • FDE (flat dark earth) chromium-zirconium PVD coating

Any reason other than color/cosmetics to go with DLC? How big of a difference is there?

Thanks in advance

Chromium-zirconium are better because it sound manlier. Diamond is only for woman.

PVD is a process. DLC is just one type of coating or treatment done with it.

And I included the link because there are other things besides knives in life.

Thank you for the response. Unfortunately Guy @ Survive! says chromium-zirconium PVD is better than DLC. And the link you gave me says:

DLC is the hardest protective coating that can be made by any PVD technique. Period.

And the quest for truth without having ones brain explode continues......

And he certainly has a reason to claim it. When in doubt, I don't side with the guy selling something. :/

DLC is not Titanium/Tungsten, it's diamond lattice carbon. (Diamond-like carbon, not coating). There are probably some harder coatings - I don't have the mechanical specs. I just am naturally distrustful of company reps making claims.

I emailed survive knives.com and I hope to get a response.... I haven't had much luck emailing them though. Seems like it goes into a black hole.
