distressed leather?

Please move this if its in the wrong forum, but I want to distress some leather sheaths and belts. whats the best way to do this?

sandpaper, wire brush, scotch brite pads, really anything abrasive. You can make imitation barb wire cuts with a knife if your careful, bug bites can be made with a knife as well.

To make em stand out use a leather "antique" finish. It will fill the scars and scuffs with a darker medium and give the leather an old look. You can also get that antique look with a good paste wax and a lot of patience, daubing it in and wiping off to create spots.

Be sure to protect the newly scarred leather with a good leather conditioner and wax. I dont suggest a sealer that is acrylic based as it will only cause the leather to look plastic like.
