Drill press advice? New maker.

Thank you so much! So you think I'll be good getting #30 for 1/8 pins, #12 bits for 3/16 pins, and #41 for 3/32 pins? Other than that I'll just need 1/2" or a size up for 1/2" wooden dowels in hidden tang hangles but I can get cheapo drill bits for that.

The one time I went in a Harbor Freight store I got so depressed at what I saw I never went back.
It is like Disney Land . . . just facades and fantasy for tool dudes but without the fun or the quality.

You've been warned.
So what drill press are you using for your knife making?

OK, so im getting 1/8", #30, 3/32, #41, 3/16, #12 drill bits. So the 3 sizes of my pins and a size up. Now on Jantz site I can get 3 of each size bit in cobalt for $51 or 3 of all sizes in HSS for 27.21. Is the worth paying double when on a budget? Or should I just get the cheaper HSS and call it a day. I understand they are consumable, just wondering if I'll get double the life from the cobalt since they are double the price

I've not been impressed with the cobalt bits in general--I bought good ones too--Norseman--and I don't see an real life advantage to HSS bits--if you get good ones, I don't know what quality level Jantz has, but I can tell you that MSC and Enco offer really good HSS bits. Good luck whichever way you go!!!

So for 5/32" pins, would you want to use a #22 or #21bit for the hole? The #22 is only 0.007" larger. Is that enough for the pins to easily slide through?
